How about we trade them the MIN 1st for another LAC 1st?

Re: Jeff Green Traded to the Memphis Grizzlies Pending League Approval.
I really hope Doc ends up coaching his son, it's a disaster waiting to happen. Doc the GM is making Doc the coach job very difficult.
Btw, it's hard to make salaries work because Clips are over the tax. We don't want salary back next season so that puts Farmar out of equation. Two min salary guys doesn't work so it would have to be 3 min salary guys for Austin or min salary guy + Wilcox or Bullock which is highly unlikely.
This Green deal changed 137 times and we get to follow it live thanks to twitter. My guess is this happens all the time before a trade is consummated - it's just we only hear about the trade when it's done.

Danny Ainge might be the only idiot in the NBA who assigns any value to second round picks.

Come on, got to get that one just for the lols.
All your picks are belong to us.
Good assessment:

I'm guessing Houston, Sacramento, and Golden State might have a long enough organizational memory where they, too, find the value of 2nd round picks.

Yeah, because second-round picks never, EVER pan out.

@WojYahooNBA: Austin's 22, pending free agent. Clips searching for PG depth. Front office/ assistants telling Doc: Forget his last name. This makes sense.
This series of Woj tweets where the front office convinces Doc that getting Austin is a good idea is priceless.

It's such a shame you're not a Nets fan. You would love Billy King. He is the not like this Danny Ainge guy - collecting these picks and other useless stuff. Billy is the man who never tanks (your avatar) AND gives up picks like candy! Match made in heaven.

Now can they convince him it's worth a 1st?
The funny thing about Rivers to me isn't just Doc coaching him- it's Doc negotiating a contract with him.

Rivers made a valid point about having a preference not to coach your child. I concur. So I wonder why he would change on this stance all of a sudden. Reportedly, it's the Clippers' front office that's pushing for his acquisition.

Doc and Austin Rivers were against the idea of being on the same team when talking about the possibility last season.

So a 1st and a 2nd for Green. Not bad. Weird that we haven't heard the protections on the 1st yet... I know we can't get it until two years after the other pick they traded (so probably 2019) but is it an unprotected 2019 pic? Or...?

Seconds aren't worthless, but the odds of getting a good player are much lower- the pool of talent is smaller, you're basically talking about guys who slip through the cracks and get passed up by every team. Sometimes it's because they're high schoolers from small Southern towns (Monta), sometimes they're guys with questions about size or athleticism (Millsap), sometimes they're Euros.. Asik was a second-rounder, I think.. Maybe Gortat, too. But Ainge likes to get college guys with his second-rounders, usually ones with a lot of skill and questions about athleticism. When those guys can cope in the league, you get a steal- but I don't think he's ever drafted a Euro, and that's where you stand the best chance of hitting with a second-rounder.
Plus they never get traded for 1sts, even if you're offering a dozen of them. Their value doesn't really aggregate on the NBA trade market.

I'd just rather have Austin Rivers than a second-rounder..

I don't understand why we have to appraise their value on the trade market. Can't we just say they have value as draft picks?

Because it matters.. Everyone talks about "assets"- that means maybe a pick gets you a player, or maybe it gets traded.
