GT 37: Wiz at ATL January 11th 3pm

Post#1 » by J-Ves » Sun Jan 11, 2015 4:01 am

Who? Wizards(25-11) at Hawks(28-8)

What? After a dominating win vs the Bulls your Washington Wizards play in Atlanta against the supa hot Hawks.

When? Sunday 3pm January 11th

TV? CSN

Key stat? Atlanta has an advantage in most categories, but one spot the Wizards have been clearly better is rebounding. The Wizards have been an elite defensive rebounding unit all season(4th in DRB%) while the Hawks have been terrible on the offensive glass(29th in ORB%). When the Hawks miss expect the Wizard big men to vacuum up the board.

Please note the odd start time, the last time the Wizards had an afternoon game they ended up losing to woeful Celtics. Lets hope they don't party too hard the night before.

A pair of dynamic duos meet up in the ATL

Hawks can't keep this up indefinitely. They're a good team no doubt but 20-2 in their last 22 (or whatever it is).
They're not that good. Coach Buddha ought to be a very serious candidate for COY though. He is coaching them
up. What strikes me as a weakness with them though is a lack of size. Horford, Milsap and Antic are their bigs.
Talented but not particularly large and not big time rim protectors either. All this said without bothering
to look at any stats on the off chance I'm talking out of my rear end. We can beat them though. Wall needs
to contain Teague and we can't let Korver go off. Gortat and Nene ought to neutralize Horford and Milsap.
Might need some crunch time heroics from the Truth. Speaking of which, it's notable how solid his impact
has been with only putting up modest numbers.
A lot of what we call 'thought' is just mental activity

Key difference between this Wizards team and earlier iterations is there isn't a single game where I am kidding myself for thinking they actually have a shot at winning.

Well, in fairness, we took Mike Pence off their hands. Taking back Mahinmi is the least they can do.

It's impossible for the Wizards to win because Atlanta simply doesn't lose. This is one of the most incredible runs I've ever seen given that it was so unexpected.

The Wizards tend to suck in afternoon games. I know it is not the typical NBA game routine, but the other team has to play in the afternoon too!!

If it is because a lot of the guys hit the clubs a little too hard the night before, we could be in trouble in Hotlanta.

Hopefully the Bullets treat this as another revenge game from the beating last time.

The 2015 Atlanta Hawks are the greatest team ever assembled. i can only hope that we stay within 30 points of them.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/tea ... bile=false

Atlanta holds opponents to a league low .437 Fg%. They also keep opponents off the free throw line. They have made 110 more free throws than opponents.

On top of that their coaching has given them 28 victories when Basketball Reference's estimate is 24 wins.

A few minutes in and the Hawks already look significantly better than the Wiz

Going to be a long game if we continue to make careless passes.

Horrible start. Lots of turnovers and bad defense.

Wake up John. U are getting your ass kicked by Teague right now.

Wizards need to go small.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

John will have to dominate, which he is not. Randy doesn't mind when opponents go on runs. He's really slow to adjust.
