I have absolutely no problem with people criticizing and critiquing the moves... I do have a problem with people making idiotic statements and/or making up false information to support their complaints. For example: 'Why did we trade Rondo for Wright' - that is not critiquing the move, or even factually correct... that is just being dumb or a troll, or both.
People with more information than you have actually considered Wright the best player in that deal, so no, saying we traded rondo for him is not nearly as ridiculous as you claim.
I look at it from a different perspective. IMHO it is ridiculous saying the Celtics traded Wright for Rondo when the Celtics may end up getting a lottery pick as well from the deal if Boston gets a little lucky. That pick was the primary compensation for Rondo. Wright was the 2nd best part of the deal from a Boston perspective.
I have a great appreciation of advanced analytics. In the past, I have done a lot of the Math involved so I understand it but I am just as much of a "eye test" person when evaluating the NBA since I know the limitations of stats like Real Plus Minus(RPM) or RAPM and PER. Clearly Wright is a poster boy for not being as good as his PER number suggests but he is also a player very effective in his role and PER and the advanced analytics I believe reflect that.
I would certainly rather have near prime Rondo over Wright but if Rondo is not going to perform anywhere near his past performance, Wright is the better basketball player when put in a situation that can play to his strengths. I do not have "NBA insider" but I suspect that may be the common sense position of someone like Pelton at ESPN.
Despite wanting the Celtics to trade Rondo, I sure hope he comes back as strong as possible by playoff time since all things being said, Rondo is one of the most entertaining players in the NBA. It is unfortunate -- very unfortunate -- if he can't recover better from the ACL injury. IMHO no way in ***** is his performance this year not somewhat related to that injury.
