He was the pretty obvious choice as a 15th man. I doubt choosing to pass on him was Masai's choice seeing as how he gave up a proven beast Nene for a big, young, unproven shot-blocker Javale McGee in Denver. Steimsma might be the nicest guy in the world, but he does nothing for us. He's a veteran who dresses every game to wave a towel, and in practice I can't see him doing much but taking time away from Bebe. It's not like he's washed up Kevin Garnett who has much knowledge to pass down to the younger generation, it's Greg Freakin' Steimsma.

Elite shot blocker with surprisingly good offence.

I've said it before...Masai missed on him.

It doesn't make you feel good about who ever did the assessment on him in summer league. He looked good for us in all but the last game.

A pick up like this would have been huge for us, like finding a free lottery pick if he keeps it up.

George Karl wanted to keep Nene but Masai dealt him anyway. If anything, that trade serves as proof that Masai makes up his own mind.

Well, looks like we missed out on the next Hakeem Olajuwon. No biggie.

He was a real shot blocker they miscalculated him, for sure.

I think they even miscalculated on Cheikh Samb at the time for a 15th man as stupid as that sounds.
On Gerald Henderson vs Derozan:
"Yes. Hendo is quite a bit better than DeMar.
So yes, I do believe he's currently the better player and do project that will continue to be in the future. I would also take Turner over DD."

Turns out that all of the posters here have wanted Whiteside since he declared for the draft.

Doc said NO to Whiteside...

Danny Granger w/ some financial advice for Hassan Whiteside:

"Keep dunking and blocking shots and that'll be $60 million."

I thought he was going to be a special player before he left the womb.

Wow he's looking a lot slimmer and mobile than he did for the Raptors in SL. Was too bulky and slow then.

The Heat are a bad matchup for the Raps, they have 2 legit stars in Wade/Bosh and now they have a legit 5 man who can rebound, block shots and get garbage buckets. Hopefully we don't meet them in the playoffs esp in the first round. Whiteside allows Bosh to play his natural position and Wade has a guy he can play the pick and roll.

Has an was weighing around close to 290 lbs this past summer, apparently he dropped 30 lbs and weighs around 260. Now he's leaner and more ripped, it goes to show the commitment this guy has to prove his doubters wrong, like he said he hes been playing with a chip on his shoulder, these are the type of guys you never count against, he's playing with hunger and determination to succeed and prove that he belongs in the NBA.

yup. It's great to see a guy work hard to regain his career momentum.

Now, if only Jonas could keep slimming down to regain the mobility and foot speed that made him a special prospect..

Im not sure why people are saying Whiteside came out of nowhere. At one point he was projected to be drafter #1 in his draft class..Which is when myself and others here wanted him. His stock fell and somehow he slipped to the second round. His early injury + emergence of Cousins in Sac town made Sac make the calculated decision to let him walk. Dude was still recovering in China ans SL he was trying to adjust. He only needed more time against better competition to get faster and get in NBA because he was very slow in the summer.

Raps have Val, Steis, Lucas I consider that rich at the position

plus
very long at forward with the Johnsons and Patterson

hard to fault Raps brass for not giving Whiteside a chance. He needs a team where he can get floor time with if he wants to catch up to speed.
1. Herro 2. Bol Bol 3. Seko 4. Bruno
unless we trade up for Barrett or trade down for PJ Washington
