LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Hassan Whiteside spent the summer dialing NBA teams seeking a tryout. No was always the response until he heard yes from Miami coach Erik Spoelstra.

''We didn't look at him before, me and 29 other teams,'' Clippers coach Doc Rivers said. ''He's playing terrific.''

They had no answer for the 7-foot Whiteside in his third year out of Marshall. His offensive display ran the gamut from tip-ins to dunks to jumpers. About the only thing Whiteside didn't do was try a 3-pointer. He was 10 of 13 from the field and 3 of 4 from the line in 28 minutes.

''He changed shots down low on defense and got us offensive rebounds, putbacks, dunks, layups, and did a really good job of controlling the paint,'' Bosh said.

That was then Nate, this is now. Miami was smart to to say yes to Hassan and put him on their D-League team. Ernie said "No-thanks, we gonna give Kevin Seraphin $4 million.+ :D

I'd love to have Hassan on this team. Same age as Seraphin, gets boards, blocks shots, athletic, and his first name is my last name. BOSS.

Yep, that was an interesting game by Whiteside. I hope he doesn't start doing that regularly... regress back to the mean very quick please. It allows them to move Bosh to PF with Whiteside and Anderson playing C.

Stats over 28 NBA games suggest he will keep it up.

Let's not anoint Whiteside as the second-coming of Hakeem Olajuwon just yet. He has played a total of 269 minutes in 3 years. He's been exclusively a garbage time player until 6 games ago. During those 6 games of semi-meaningful minutes, Miami has gone 1-5 and Whiteside has an on/off differential of approximately -10 per 48 minutes. And that's with nobody scouting him.

This is his second double double. He averages 12 points, 13 rebounds, and 5 blocks per 36 minutes.

I watched him play. He is legitimately good. Watch and see, nate.

He's not Olajuwon but he looks like he will be a better than average defender who is also able to score.

Funny, I used to watch him when he was with the Kings... terrible - never thought he would get to be a legit NBA player.

Detroit beats Toronto, there is still plenty of time for Detroit to get into the playoff hunt.

Anyone see Jennings light up Lowry? Thats why I say Wall is better. His D is 10x better. He wont get lit up like that. Half the time, they have to pull Lowry off of guys, including Wall. Wall guards Lowry but Tor will put Ross or somone on Wall because Lowry cant stay with him

MCW has been a complete disaster this year. He is shooting like Josh Smith and turning it over like Seraphin.

I think Cleveland will get it together and still finish 5th or so. I can't believe that Milwaukee is going to end up with 47 wins either.

I figure Atlanta takes 1st. 2nd through 4th is up for grabs between Washington, Chicago and Toronto. 5th and 6th will be between Milwaukee and Cleveland. 7th will be Detroit. 8th could be anyone except Philly and New York.

It's really looking like the top seed will be a real luxury because the 8th seed is going to be a pushover. Every other 1st round matchup could go either way, depending upon how hot the lower seed is.

FWIW, CHI is better on the road this year than at home.
What is notable about that is I think I heard the other day there
are more than 10 teams in the Assoc that currently are better road
than home teams.

But love seeing those CHI losses. And TOR losses.
Now if we can finally get the SAS monkey off our backs.

The Bulls defense is significantly worse than last year, at least so far. They have had some bad losses recently (Nets, Utah, Orlando).

Last night they shot 49%, made 6 more foul shots and outrebounded the Magic by 9 and still lost.

Noah has lost a step (or he's playing hurt) and he's the heart and soul of that defense.

As long as we don't play Cleveland in the first round, I like our chances a lot. Sorry, too much bad history there. You just know Lebron will get all the love from the officials and we'll get robbed of a game or two.

I just checked Noah's DRPM and it is only .7 worse than last year. Rose seems to be the primary culprit. They are 2.12 ppg worse with him on the floor.

He's been playing on one leg most of the season since he recovered from the surgery this summer. But the word is he's nearly back to full strength in that knee.

Rose's defensive numbers don't look good and Oladipo really lighted up their back court last night.

Strange night. Mo Williams goes for 52 and Horford gets his first ever triple double.
