Even if Blatt wasn't talking about the contract, but about Love's playing ability, it shouldn't be such a big deal.

Sometimes you've got to say the truth, even if it hurts somebody's feelings.
Tough love should be considered normal in professional sports, even sports in general.

Exactly my thoughts and this shouldn't be anything new when discussing Blatt or any coach that has won championships. Blatt is known for dishing out tough love and constructive criticism to his players when they don't play to their ability. Whether it be behind closed doors or in the media.

what if the reporter said after, "he is on a max deal"

Blatt says "oh okay didn't know"

we'll never know! out of context stuff via twitter can be a pain while this is funny and all

yea but if you don't know don't say $hit. :noway:
Also coaches really should not be uttering the word contract out of their mouths, it's out of their scope. That's a GM area.
Blatt should not say these things, if he wants a way to motivate Love there are more effective options.

It was just a quip ... we should be able to beat Sacramento with two of the best players in the game on the floor, but Love & Irving's pay is well ahead of their ability to carry a team to wins.

His current contract is a max contract. He could not be making $1 more than he currently is.

Anyway, it sounds like the context was someone saying "You have two max players, why aren't you playing better?" Sounds like shade to me.

I stand corrected. My bad.

Honestly watching pretty much every Cavs game this year, there have not been many games where Love has looked like a max player this year. Blatt doesn't mince words, and everyone knew that's what he was like when he signed on.

Run DLC wrote:How come Love is always the target of criticism? What about the equally overrated, Kyrie Irving? Both of them are stats stars who don't have the impact to win games. They don't know how to win, it's that simple. Kyrie is so inept at running an offense. He's fun to watch, but his style of playing is not fit to win basketball. He doesn't have the same natural leadership and awareness that other elite PG's have. He doesn't read plays, he just runs in and do his usual fancy/flashy dribble while completely negating his own team offense and ball movement. He's the most overrated all-star guard in the league. A one-dimensional volume scorer who doesn't understand how to bring the best impact out of his teammates.

the discussion is about what Blatt said.
To your point, I think if it's Kyrie's team like LeBron says it is, Kyrie's responsible for fixing it. It didn't mean for Kyrie to play hero ball to his heart's content, with Love there to get the boards for everyone's misses. If they wanted a rebounder, they should have signed one. Just my .02. They need to go inside first IMO, if this group is going to be successful on offense.

Well said. This is the second time he's meddled in player personnel decisions, the first being with keeping Andrew Wiggins. Cleveland's problem isn't Love. It's that they've got a 'shoot first' point guard on a team in need of a distributor.

I love his honesty and he's right but you don't throw players under the bus like that in public unless you have the reputation and track record(i.e. Phil, Pop).

That would be funny, because Blatt is more NBA level than some of the guys who are already coaching for years in the NBA.

Even with a reputation and a track record, its just a line you do not cross. Not just in the NBA but in any profession its wrong to talk about your co-worker's contract and wages when its not coming out of your pocket.

Well based on his play right now he is correct

18/10 on 44FG% while playing next to no defense isnt really screaming "max"

i guess its Blatts way to try to light a fire in Love... to prove his coach wrong... is it a good way? maybe not.. but i guess thats what hes trying to say.

The Cavs as a whole need some games with their full lineup.. alot can Change with Lebron and Iman back

If they are healthy they fix the two still biggest Problems.. perimeter defense and passing.

Phil Jackson has the rings to back up his opinion.

Blatt has as much NBA experience as Will Cherry.

Cavs have zero confidence right now. They break so easily it is embarrassing. They'll have effort for a time, but then calls won't go their way and the other team will go a run. At that point, might as well hang it up, because everyone has there head down and checks out. The mentality of this team is weak.

I believe Blatt just put the nail in his own coffin.

When you start insulting your own players during a losing streak as a rookie coach, you dig your own grave.

Calling out Love, although probably the right thing to do, is going to end with him getting fired by the end of the month, watch.

Lebron certainly didn't help things out by refusing to back his coach either. Guy just isn't cut out to coach NBA ball.

If Phil, Pop or any other well respected coach would do that, people would say they are doing good job for calling them out for bad play.

Yeah bro, a fist full of rings will give you that credo. Being a rookie coach won't.
