So this trade boils down to Green for a second round pick.

Is there any chance the Celtics actually keep Rivers?

There's also Thornton's expiring $8,697,500

Given the timing of the trade Green got a mini vacation from Friday to Sunday

Attendance and everything else that goes along with it is going to be down if it's not already. May as well save as much money on salary to offset that.

Sources: Danny Ainge has just traded his son Austin to the Sioux Falls Skyforce for "the rest of that chicken sandwich". Trade call later today.

I don't understand why we can't keep rivers, instead of trading him to the Clippers. I'm going to be really upset if he ends up being a good player with the clippers, and all we got in return was a second rounder. Why not keep him, and if he plays really well, then trade him for a better return.

The hate for Austin Rivers is so played out.

I too hope we keep him. I work with my dad, it's not easy. It's gonna be difficult in LAC for both Doc & Austin. Maybe their chemistry will be bad & they'll miss the playoffs?

Would love to cut Nelson, get Prince & Thornton, Bass out here & keep Rivers. If he's a bust, then he's gone. If he can be a good role player then, we didn't ship him off for a 2031 top 55 protected 2nd rounder.

At worst he is going to be a good backup PG/SG. I just dont understand the rush to trade him. That's all. I rather we keep him, and buy out Prince.

Turner - Smart - Pressey
Bradley - Thornton
Crowder - Young - Wallace
Sully - Bass
Zeller - Olynyk

Is this how we finish the year? Jesus.

Keep an eye on Tayshaun Prince situation in Boston. Cavs definitely interested in Prince if contract bought out by Celtics.

Unless the clippers are offering a pick I don't see he point of trading Rivers. Rivers is in a contract year anyway since the pelicans never picked up his player option.

Doesn't it boil down to Green for Prince, a future MEM 1st round pick, and then whatever we end up getting for Rivers?

I would also prefer to give Austin a chance to see what he can do under Stevens over adding another second round pick. We can pretty much get a second round pick anytime we want.

Why buy him out? Doesn't that just hurt his trade value? I suppose it keeps TP and his agent happy.

Totally agree...much rather give minutes at backup pg to Rivers than have low 2nd rounder.

They can always sign the guy to a 10 day contract from whatever D-League team drafts him next year. I know the hate for Pressey is strong with many, but he's in his 2nd year in the offense and is the guy you want backing up Turner and Smart when things are going awry. They are evaluating young players who possibly have value or a future with the team. You want someone who can direct traffic for these guys when needed in the hope that they achieve higher levels of success as we go this year.

Depending upon what happens with next season's roster, it's possible they could take on another developmental project. Stevens has has enough unknowns on his plate already, and why add a circus as well (Hi, Jeremiah). Rather open a few slots to add a couple of D-Leaguers later in the season to those 1 year plus unguarnteed years type contracts and see if they can find a surprise there for this year. Especially whe/if Thortnton gets traded or bought out.

What? Did you expect Anthony Davus to be wedged somewhere in that lineup?
