Why is Wells not taking any heat?

Post#1 » by Raptorsrock » Thu Jun 14, 2007 3:39 pm

As Wells continues to suck donkey testicles this year I'm shocked he hasn't felt more heat from the press. Esp. after signing that fat contract.

Is he having that typical post contract year let down? If so, his arse needs to be grilled in the press for it. He's suppose to be one of our corner stones and if he had played up to his potential this 1st half we'd be 5 games better in the win column (IMO).

To me it seems like he's just going through the motions now

I completely agree. People are blaming Thomas when Wells is making so much more money and posting horrible numbers...

Its his standard down year because the season ends in an odd number.

actually, in 03' he probably had his best year...

Wells has been terrible though, hes only on pace for 13 HRs and 77 RBIs. We are not paying this guy all that money for this type of production. Wells has been garbage this year. Hopefully a strong second half can turn his season around

Rios is on pace for 40 HRs, 100 RBIs
Hill on pace for 20 hr, 100 rbi

Nice to see Rios and Hill having a great year so far... Thank god JP didnt trade Rios when there were all those rumours floating around

Wells is unquestionably in the long term plans of the Jays, but if you strip it right down, Rios and Hill have to be the top guys on the list as far as untouchable players.

VW has a trackrecord of starting slow, and while thats no excuse, everyone knows about it and is likly giving him some more time to break out of this prolonged nut sucking. If June finishes and we get very far into July and Vernon still hasnt started turning it around then ill bet he starts getting some ****.

How would it be if Wells batted leadoff, and Rios was moved down in the order to possibly increase his production. Wells at the moment isn't doing much in the clean up spot, so it's clear we need someone else there.

A problem i see with Wells this year, is that he doesn't seem to be batting for average. He's taking too many big cuts, instead of batting smart for singles, doubles etc.

Looks like he's happy to be back home, he's having a good start to the game tonight 2/2 with a double.

This series may just be what puts Wells on track. Another good game today

Yes I agree, he's just going through the pressure of that fat contract...

A couple of months later....no real improvement.

.315 OBP is truly pathetic.

Today Thomas passed him in RBIs and his OBP is .370.

What a great move by his agent, grab the money after a great year instead of testing free agency.

Wells has a lower OBP than Greg Zaun. Yikes
