Leading the Charge: the Next Great HC

Pace says that the GM/HC relationship is the most important one in the building when it comes to "leading the charge." Who will be his right hand man?

This morning I was thinking I'd be extremely disappointed if Kubiak isn't our next HC and then I saw this:

@AdamSchefter
Bears prepared to make a major push for Ravens OC Gary Kubiak, per source. Kubiak now free to talk with teams about HC vacancies.

Let's do it!

Kubiak uses a zone-blocking scheme with a run-first offense that sets up play-action for big plays down the field.

Our offensive linemen are a better fit for zone blocking. Forte is a great all-around back but his best attribute is probably his ability to see the field, make one cut and go. Cutler is obviously best in a play-action offense that let's him use his mobility and strong arm. Jeffery, Marshall and Bennett aren't great route runners, which is why they don't fit that well in timing offense, they're great regardless of the scheme but play-action suits them best.

Kubiak has obviously shown commitment to the run and makes every running back look great in his offense. Forsett ran for 12 yards and 8 TDs on 5.4ypc average after being a career journeyman and replacing Rice at the start of the season.

He also builds excellent coaching staffs that optimize talent. Had Wade Phillips as DC in Houston. He got to the playoffs twice with Houston even though there was very little talent on his teams outside of Andre Johnson for the majority of his tenure.

So that's my favorite guy. What's going on with some other HC options out there?

Rex Ryan just signed with the Bills and he's taking the 49ers OC with him.

Bills expected to hire former 49ers OC Greg Roman as new OC to go along with Rex Ryan, per sources. The two worked together in Baltimore.

If Seahawks lost to Panthers, Jets were prepared to fly to Seattle last night to try to hire Dan Quinn as their head coach, per sources.

Obviously we have already interviewed Gase and Quinn. The Jets are still in the mix for Quinn.

We have an interview scheduled with the Lions DC, Teryl Austin. 49ers and Falcons also in the mix for him.

So far we have shown interest in Austin, Bowles, Gase, Kubiak, Quinn and Shanahan. GM Ryan Pace said at his press conference he has a list of guys he has in mind that he believes would mix well with Phillips and McCaskey. He has said he wants someone in the Parcells mold.

Yeah, I'm personally hoping for Kubiak as well and then he can bring in Wade Phillips to be the DC.

Wade Phillips would be nice. If one of the defensive guys get the job at San Francisco, I think Fangio would be a good option. I doubt he'd stay there under some other defensive minded HC.

Forget Kubiak, he was probably my first choice but he's staying in Baltimore:

“It’s flattering and humbling to be invited to interview for a number of head coaching positions, and I appreciate these opportunities,” said Kubiak, the Texans’ head coach from 2006-13. “But I have decided to stay with the Ravens. This is a special organization and we, like coach (John) Harbaugh says, are building something great.”

I really hope the Bears don't hire Fox. I agree with a chicago writer: If Fox couldn't get it done with Manning, Anderson, D. Thomas, E. Sanders, Julius Thomas, Von Miller, ect how in the world would he get it don't with Cutler and this defense. Fox was fired for a reason. I'd pass.

Todd Bowles accepted the NYJ job.

We're interviewing Marrone and expected to interview John Fox in the near future after interviewing Austin on Tuesday.

Fox is not to blame for the lack of sack in the playoffs from the Bronco players. Fox's biggest and only notable playoff mistake was making manning take a knee in regulation with 50 seconds against the Ravens.

The reason I heard, from reporters, he got fired was because Fox and Elway hated each other.

I agree though, it seems like there are three candidates left (Austin, Marrone, and Fox) and he's th bottom of the list for me even though i wouldn't be upset with the hire

Here are my favorites of the left over available coaches.

1. Teryl Austin: I've liked him ever since the middle of the season. His history as a position coach has been positive and his first year as a DC he coaches one of the best defenses in the NFL

2. Jack Del Rio (reports are saying are close to signing with the Raiders)

3. Mike Shanahan; Only coach to have success with Cutler.

4. Darrell Bevell

5. Doug Marrone

6. John Fox: Mike and Mike seem to think its a lock for him to become the bears next coach.
