Assuming optimal health, how far do the Bulls have to go in order for Thibs to keep his job?

Or, Noah could come off the bench and still play more than Taj (ala Manu).

If Thibs wants to not demean him too much in asking such a big change. The main thing is just breaking him and Pau up and letting Jo get more burn at center.

Gotta love overreactions, eh? Thibs ain't going anywhere he's a top 5, possibly top 3 coach in the league.

Why do people say he is top 3 or 5 coach?
Please tell me that winning means something. If that is the case didn't Doc, Spoestrta win a championship
Also please don't forget that he coaches in the east and the last few years without rose they wouldn't have made the playoffs in the west

Every Bulls team he's coached has over-achieved to one degree or another, including this one. Does that make him a top 3 or 5 coach? I'm not sure rankings matter. Because you are right, winning matters. And Thibs wins.

There are two things here

1. Thibs has won a lot of regular season games by going 100% for 82 games and sometimes it has seem to impacted his team come the playoffs
2. Thibs career playoff record of 17-22 (even the 10-7 with Derrick record doesn't scream woo hoo since that team was a #1 seed both times) isn't what I would call impossible to get rid of

I'm not saying Thibs deserves to be fired but I think that this season matters a lot in deciding to bring him back

Every season matters in deciding whether to bring him back. I wanted to have Skiles' baby until about one month into the season in which he "resigned." In the blink of an eye, it became obvious he needed to go.

But Thibs' raw playoff record numbers don't have much meaning given the circumstances he dealt with.

I am not saying he's not flawed. At any given time since he first came here, there have always been 2-3 different things he is doing that I don't like. There may come a time when a season reveals that those things have become too big to overlook relative to his virtues. Maybe it will be this season. I've said since this summer that this season will be Thibs' biggest test. So far, there's a lot I don't like:

1. Noah is playing too much relative to quality.
2. Taj continues to play not enough due to quality.
3. Mirotic should play more as well (though this has steadily improved).
4. His handling of McDermott appeared abysmal (though I'm hopeful that was connected to the injury).

Those aren't small things. And they are similar to mistakes he's made in the past as well. But on the whole, Thibs has my support.

This season, I think Thibs has addressed almost everything that he was criticized for before. Well pretty close at least.

- He’s got the Bulls playing a faster pace, we’re not 29th in the league any more.
- He’s focused the team more on offense, we have a balanced offense & defense now. We’re not 1st on defense and 30th on offense anymore.
- He’s respected minute limitations on everyone who has them.
- He’s overcome his disdain of rookies and given Mirotic plenty of burn, even in positions he’s not suited for just to get him on the floor.
- He’s played Rose as an off-guard, fielding 2 PG rotations with both Rose & Brooks on the floor.
- He’s stopped overusing the floppy play for wings which dominated our offense the past years and embraced more iso plays.

I wondered about Thibs’ future w/ the team after the Wizard series, but he’s really changed a lot this year and I’ve been really impressed with our offense.

Thibs deserves some props. If Mike D’Antoni all of a sudden abandoned his baby SSOL and got his teams playing elite defense, that would be amazing. But it never happened, it rarely happens.

I still complain about how we handle big man shooters and giving Rose too much leeway, but overall I’m really blown away with how much Thibs has changed & improved our offense.
