He's hitting from one specific range on a small sample size, and the good shooting from there may or may not continue. We're talking roughly 60 attempts from that range so far this year. And his percentages from 3-9 feet is significantly worse, as his percentage from 16 feet to the 3pt line. The defense still wants him shooting from the midrange instead of getting to the rim. And, at 50%, that 10-16 foot shot is about as efficient for him as shooting a three.

Sometimes 2pt jumpers are necessary. But there's a reason he can get them easily: the defense wants him shooting them.

This hasn't really been a major problem imo, because Wall is taking less shot attempts in general. He was always unselfish, but this season his game has shifted to being even more of a playmaker and he's far more judicious with his attempts - at least from the eye test it's quite noticeable.

If the stat breakdown was available, I'd be willing to bet that the majority of Wall's long two attempts come late in games when we were losing, or when he's trying to bring us back from a deficit (because the offense went into one of it's slumps, Nene/Beal/Gortat etc can't hit an open mid jumper to save their lives etc). But when things are clicking offensively and guys are making the shots they're supposed to make, Wall will rarely break the flow of the offense by taking a bad shot-- he'll ALWAYS look to pass and get someone else going. Whether it's reflected in the stats or not, it's a noticeable difference from how he played last year. He's becoming one of those Kidd/Nash type point guards who set the table for everyone - whether you're a star or a role player you love playing with those types of guys.

If JW had better shotmakers around him he would be leading a juggernaut offense right now. The only reason there's room to knock him is because he has to take bad shots a little more often than he'd want - which isn't necessarily his fault, it's because his supposed 'shotmakers' don't always make the basic wide open shots he sets them up for, and thus he has to try to force the issue when our offense dies. This will probably be an issue for as long as our PF/C positions are so inconsistent (we all know who the ringleader of that 'inconsistent' group is, just two seasons left on that deal..), but eventually when Beal, Porter etc progress into more consistent options offensively you'll really start to see the offense take another step.

Wall right now, is really good at basketball. And he's getting better continuously in all the areas we need him to. He's impressed me a lot this season.

Last night Wall and Derrick Rose were both cold. Rose kept shooting and nearly cost them the game, going 5-20. They had a 9 point lead in the 4th when he came back in and kept chucking. Indy went on a run and took the lead. Luckily the Bulls held on thanks to Butler.

Wall was only 1-7 in the first half. In the second i don't think he took any jumpers at all, just inside shots. He just focused on getting other guys shots and we had a big win on the road. If he had kept on shooting we easily could have lost.

On my phone so I can't post it but did anyone see the segment that Legler did giving Wall props for 2 key plays vs the Rox and calling him an MVP candidate

Wall has extended his lead over all guards in the second round of voting! He is over 40,000 ahead of wade whose in second and over 130,000 ahead of Irving who is third!

He is second to Lebron in the whole east!

Lowry and Wade falling behind Wall, still leads wade by 60,000 votes and Wall is 160,000 votes ahead of Lowry.

Come on everyone!! Let's get Wall starting!!! Cannot let these Canadiens ruin the event.

NBA.com has Wall 4th in their mvp rankings.

I think it's a little to high, but he deserves something for being robbed of Easts player of the month for December

For this story, he agreed to meet at the team hotel in San Antonio after the game -- an arrangement I'd never even requested in 20 years of covering the NBA. Although the Wizards lost the game, he still kept to the interview and didn't shy away from any questions

I thought EC player of the month should have been Jimmy Butler, tbh

Can we officially no say Wall has a floater added to his arsenal ?

In that SAS games, I think he was like 4-4 on the floater and shot a couple different forms of it.

The evolution of John Wall continues. He was 2-3 from 3. 4-4 on floater.

Dude has developed pretty nicely over the last two years.

His confidence in his shooting looks great. The floater is smooth and soft, not rushed looking and hard. His 3 is looking more pure and the release is smooth and quicker. He doesn't have to be wiiiiiddddddeeeee open in order to get it off now. His long 2 is is looking better too. It's obvious he has been working on his mechanics. But the key is his confidence. When his confidence drops, his mechanics go out the window. #stayconfident. And hopefully it will translate to the playoffs.

Now we got to work on Beal's game. He has regressed.

I think its unfair to expect Beal to get to Walls level. I think we may need to lower our expectations for Brad and raise them even higher for Wall.

When Wall is hitting shots at even a respectable level, he's basically unstoppable.

That floater reminded me of the Antawn Jamison days. :D

It looks like Wall is taking his cue from Derrick Rose regarding the floater. Rose probably wishes he learned the floater BEFORE he tore up his knees. The floater may help Wall not break down as early.

I counted that he took 6 and 7 floaters and missed one. He made three in the first half and at least two in the second half (one baseline).

Rose's floater actually used to be lethal. For some reason around 2010, he just stopped using it.

back to back games, Wall shot more 3s then Beal.

Wall was 2-4
Beal was 1-2

Both were wins. But its seems Wall is doing what he needs. This team needs more 3 balls.

Beal needs to shot more though.
