And I've been trying to give the front office the benefit of the doubt.

What an utter joke.

I'd love to get Pozz's take on this. Seems to me Tomsula was hired because he's easy to work with aka a yes man. I hope I'm wrong though.

Just curious, to all the people who hate this move why?

I don't hate it. But I'm not sure how good of a staff he'll be able to assemble. That's the big question mark right there.

Not thrilled with the move- does Fangio stay at DC or does Donatell get promoted? And more importantly- who is the OC?

Tomsula is FAR from a yes man. He's incredibly fiery and has a history of letting his ideas, and language for that matter, fly to players, other coaches, and his superiors. In fact, there have been some people on the record and off the record who have wondered if Tomsula was too fiery for some owner's liking. He's not incredibly corporate and might be out of place in SOME ways if Jed and company want to shuffle him out there in any more stadium and business efforts like they wanted to do with Harbaugh a few times (now that the stadium is finished it's unlikely there will be as many of these situations).

I would get very animated with anybody that says the 49ers settled for a "yes" man much in the same way I got on people (on other message boards) when they got on the 49ers for hiring a DL coach from NFL Europe (despite getting a high recommendation from Bill Belichick).

By far the biggest question for me on first take is the kind of staff he can bring in. I'll be underwhelmed with Jason Tarver (former Niner) as his DC even if Tomsula kind of still runs the defense or co-shares running the D.

It's Singletary 2.0 with less crazy.

It's another great positional coach that's rah rah that's never coordinated before.

I mean trust me I hope I'm terribly wrong and he's the next great NFL coach and I'll wait and see how the staff pans out but 7-9 and 6-10 here we come.

The rumor is Dennis Allen as DC candidate if Fangio bolts (which he will likely now).

All the naysayers are out in herds...Jim Tomsula is well respected by the locker room and is a firey leader as well we a great teacher of football. Please give this guy a freakin chance....This likely means Fangio is out, so I hope they promoto Donatell, keep the continuity. am excited to see who the OC will be though.

I'm glad I was wrong about that and thanks for taking it easy on me.

Tomsula is a far, far better technical communicator and big picture thinker than Singletary ever has been up to this point. There are so many differences between the two men going in that I have no problem saying it's a terrible comparison on many (not all) levels IMO.

People can laugh at me all you want but a number of smart people have said to not discount Tomsula's time in NFL Europe and what he picked up there. Another minor detail that makes him different than Singletary.

Donatell was reportedly also thrown out as a DC option. Somebody from Tomsula's camp (likely his agent) leaked that out a while back. It wouldn't shock me if the defense becomes a group effort the way the offense was kind of a group effort this year. There will be one main voice when it comes to the classroom but I could see Tomsula structuring things in a way where it's more group effort than a one man show in so many ways like it was under Fangio.

I'm just going to say this once. In times like this I get very animated and sometimes heated and it's possible it comes off like I'm being mean, rude or like I think somebody is stupid and I don't value any opinions. That's not necessarily my intention or the case most of the time but I do not like crap being thrown out there without a lot of factors, ideas or substance coming along with it. Nothing I say should be taken personally on that kind of disrespectful level.

I don't know everything either and I'd like to acknowledge that again so with some of the things I say I might be just as wrong or more wrong than a lot of others. If it has come across like I'm acting like I know more than anybody else on every subject. I don't in a lot of cases.

@CamInman: Vic Fangio not expected to remain #49ers DC under new coach Jim Tomsula, per league source. Fangio had phenomenal 4-year run
