He played great against us and is supremely talented. We signed him after injuries just to release him a day later. Crazy bouncy athlete for a big man and is exactly the type of piece we are missing.

It comes down to evaluating talent and doing a better job observing the player's skill set and see if those skills sets match best match up to your scheme of play. We missed the boat on Whiteside. So did the Kings. Not it's Miami's time to reap the benefits of Whiteside's work ethic.

I remember Whiteside looking really good for us during the preseason. A lot of people, myself included, wanted the Grizz to keep him as our 15th man. Three months later he looks awesome in Miami. It's a shame - he would have been perfect as a backup to Marc, and he would have allowed us to trade Kosta for an upgrade elsewhere on the roster. Oh well. Good on him for resurrecting his career.

Well if it is any consolation at the time we needed to save that 15th slot for a backup point guard since Calathes was serving a 13 game suspension and Mike Conley was having ankle issues, so he simply got caught in the numbers game. Coach J was not going to trust him more than Kosta and backup point guard was a need, so we can give them a Mulligan on this one.

Hate to say i told you so but... well, you get the idea.
Are you talking about kalin lucas? We could've just as well put any of the shooting guards as backup point, kalin is basically a 6'0 sg anyway.
No. The grizzlies messed up, no excuses, no mulligan or whatever for them. The knock on whiteside was always him being a weakling, lack of dedication and bball iq. That's why the kings gave up on him. He got his mind right, added a bunch of muscle and became a monster in the dleague (i know i know... poor competition) and pretty good in summer league for us. It should've been a no brainer, there's not that many 25yo lengthy 7'0 250lbs people with that mix of strength AND athleticism running around on this planet, maybe a dozen of them around that age. It's what they call winning the genetic lottery. I don't care how dumb he may or may not be: rebounding, blocking shots and dunking aren't rocket science. Not to mention that the team didn't (still don't) have a third string center which you'd think could come in quite handy given marc's injury history in recent years.
I wonder who made that decision, the gm? Honestly,he should just make me an assistant and start to look good. (semi-serious)
