OKC frontrunners to land Lopez for Perkins/Lamb; Nets in talks For Thad Young...

Post#341 » by Zachbretton » Fri Jan 16, 2015 9:09 pm

This is straight up turning into a **** mess. I see the reasons we may've not pulled the trigger, but now we've turn out asset against us, I can't imagine that Brook will care even in the slightest. If we don't trade him soon, it will just become toxic. You don't just "aggressively" seek offers and then back out at the last minute... It makes everything look like a joke.

It's clear people have value for Brook, whatever it may be. I don't see why King wasn't trying to get more teams involved or something. There has to be a trade out there (like the OKC one that works for both parties).

At this point Brook is just even more of a dead weight because he KNOWS he's gone

Link?

I can see ownership telling King to make the bloody moves but as far the actual negotiation or process of it, how do we know?

Fck them.

How many times have teams done that to us?

Denver with Melo
Orlando and Cleveland with Dwight

Its part of the NBA. If its not the deadline day then things might not get completed.

I hate it when anyone trys to sell Perkins as anything other than the scrub he is no matter how lunch pail he is.

Oh I'm definitely overselling him but realistically, he's 7'. An elite post defender, and 6 free fouls per game. I think that's a fair evaluation of his game. On top of all that the best games of his career were next to KG so I think he could have proved a bit useful. Not to mention his contract situation.

im beyond pissed they pulled the plug on lance. its such a terrible decision...

the guy is from brooklyn, would at the very least provide a short term spark, give the fans someone to be interested or excited about, and is super low risk with his contract structure.

perkins/lamb is obviously a move we have to do if we can dump lopez, but lance is where we should focus

See that's the fundamental difference in how I approach things. I never not ever care about the short term thinking in a sport with this type of salary cap dominated by a handful players.

I believe you are either going all in or you are pulling out. Are you cashing in your chips to try to make a run or are you cashing out to step back and fight another day?

I could care less where Lance Stephenson or anyone else was born. I'm going to evaluate that player with no attachment or preconceived notion whatsoever.

I'm going to look at how he is perceived around the league his upside and then consider the true cost and not personalize my feelings about the players I am giving up as well. I never just want to dump somebody because they irritate me and I will never covet a player to say let's just see how we can subtly adjust our mediocre team. Fix what's wrong with this team which is at the top of the roster meaning add star power or cash the hell out.

Please. Don't give King the benefit of the doubt. He could careless about the best possible team on the floor.

The Lamb/Perkins deal allows us to be spenders in the 2015 free agency with a full MLE and the ability to do sign and trades. Even the Stephenson deal helps us avoid the repeater tax with Jack and Lopez combining for 22 million off the salary cap. These offers have the best of both worlds for ownership but King just wants to pretend he's some hardball GM thinking conservatively because he's using his last valued asset. He's only doing this crap to save his job because he knows whenever the new ownership comes in, they will evaluate his pathetic tenure as a President and GM.

thats fine, but holding on to a player having his worst season of his career, on a bad contract, who doesnt fit the coach is worse then making a trade were you dont get great value.

why should anyone be concerned about a player fitting a coach in the NBA? I say F the coach! It's his job to fit his personnel not the players job to fit around this guy. This isn't a college program or Phil Jackson coming in here with a proven track record and a fixed offense.

DarkXaero wrote:However, with Lance, the attitude/maturity issues are very real and a major concern. A lot of you here want to sweep these facts under the rug, but that doesn't make them any less true. There's a reason why there is barely any market for Lance out there, and teams want Charlotte to throw in an extra asset for taking on Lance. There are behind the scenes stories that NBA FOs are aware of that aren't public knowledge to us. IMO, that's why teams are staying away from Lance, in addition to what we already know.

I havent seen anyone ignore his attitude issues.... my thing is this, worst case you just send him home. he is owed 1 year 9 million. we'd be paying brook 1/16 if we didnt make the trade. worst case we save 7 million... and that ignores anyone else we'd get in a lance deal (marvin?).

i think conservatively you get a couple good months from lance trying to stick it in charlottes face and playing in front of his home team. then he becomes a problem if we lose in the playoffs or in the offseason... at which point he is a 9 million expiring that can probably be moved or just sent away from the team.

I dont see this mega downside to lance. we dont have chemistry for him to disrupt here.

See now selling it as a cap dump I get. Throw a pick in and I would have no problem. However to be clear my shock and dismay was how easy people are willing to have a grass is greener mentality about a former 2nd round pick role player compared to a lottery pick center who has averaged 20 in this league. it does not matter whether you like Lopez or think he will stay healthy or max out his potential. I just find no reason to be more excited about Lance the player and his future vs Lopez the player and his future.

I just want the evaluations to be somewhat objective. And I get that's hard to do when you are frustrated first hand with one guy and maybe saw a game here or there from the other guy and thought I see something I like. But if you step back and look at both players at 24 years old and 26 years old there's just no reasonable way to actually covet Lance Stephenson upside over Lopez. That's really all I've been trying to say.

perkins isnt even a player at this point, he is simply a contract.

Lamb and Jones are decent young players who would likely be better then what we currently get from mirza/bogs/karasev.

im not sure what we can realistically expect to get. we would be getting 1 or 2 players under 24 on rookie deals and a large expiring
I think E was particularly focusing on AD's comment that Perkins is a "tough nasty vet".

Perkins is simply a salary dump, not much more than that.

Exactly!

Perkins was a salary dump and we were probably going to try to flip him to Minnesota for Thad Young, a guy that could help.

Billy King strikes again!

is this for me or for him? Because this was my point. But I don't like when fans try to sell the contract filler as some sort of player value.

I think it's weird that OKC is getting the best player in the trade by just giving out Lamb & Perk... A healthy Lopez would complement Ibaka and would push OKC further in the playoffs...

A perennially healthy Lopez wouldn't be on the block though. As an OKC fan I'm hoping we end up with Brook, but it's a major gamble for both teams. I'm a little curios about the direction you guys are going, the front office must actually value Lance or else a straight Lopez for Lamb/Perkins would shed salary with only slightly less potential at the sg position.

Lopez is a black hole, he can't defend the pick and roll, and he is lazy as hell. He can and will score points though which is something you guys could use from a big I guess.

Good luck, I hope his foot stays in one piece. He's a nice guy but on the basketball court most of us are sick of his ****. When he has a 19 point outburst in the first half of a game and finishes with 23 points and 3 rebs you'll understand exactly why most of us want to boot him to the curb.

He'd be our third option so a huge outburst in one half would be fine with us. An efficient 13 points would have us ecstatic.
“If you're getting stops and you're making threes and the other team's not scoring, that's when you're going to see a huge point difference there,” coach Billy Donovan said.

Would you elaborate on it a bit more? What do you see in Lamb and Jones that makes it worth it?
They seem like 2 end of bench scrubs in the making, when you take out 2-3 games Jones had earlier this season before again hurting his knees.

They are still have promise and Lamb is way ahead of Bogey as an NBA caliber guard.

you could throw some highlights at me the whole day, that would not prove your point any further. This is Lamb-s third year in the league, still he has done NOTHING, except maybe make 3 games worth highlighting. For Bogey it is the first year of very difficult transitioning from europe, and he has already done a lot more to be honest... By next year Bogey will be 3 times the player Lamb is.

I dont really see anything so much obsessing about Lamb. Maybe it is just different for those people who see his career thru high school, college and then many years in NBA. The hype level might be different.
Only thing I know of significance about Lamb and PJIII is that both of them were HUGELY hyped on draft day and fell on the draft board to OKC, and neither of them has done ANYTHING to prove their hype and would have been huge busts if picked even any spots ahead of where they were ( Actually I would consider Lamb a bust already, because he was picked in the lottery, and 3 years into the league, he still has no role on an NBA team.)
