2015 Africa Cup of Nations (Jan 17 - Feb 8)

Post#1 » by LittleOzzy » Sat Jan 3, 2015 1:10 am

The 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, is scheduled to be the 30th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the international football championship of Africa. It is organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and held from 17 January to 8 February 2015.

The tournament was initially scheduled to be hosted by Morocco, who previously hosted it in 1988, but Morocco refused to host the tournament at the scheduled dates because of the Ebola virus epidemic in West Africa. The host country was later changed to Equatorial Guinea.

Normally a good mix of players from European teams play in this tournament, so it's always competitive.

An in-form Yaya Toure, Bony and Gervinho should be more than enough for the Ivory Coast to win it all.

That's what they always say and they never win jack. Yaya is too lazy when playing for country

usually only follow AFCON during the KO stages. Couldn't be bothered by the round robin portion.

Chicago Fire's David Accam heading to semis with Ghana; Rais Mbolhi and Algeria ousted

The Chicago Fire will have to wait a little longer before new forward David Accam can join preseason camp after Ghana beat Guinea 3-0 on Sunday in an Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinal.

Goals by Christian Atsu in each half -- an early finish in the 4th minute and a spectacular, dipping shot from distance in the 61st minute -- bookended an easy finish from Kwesi Appiah, who took advantage of a muffed Guinean defensive clearance as Ghana's Black Stars were rarely tested.

Accam did not enter Saturday's match, but he will be available for selection in Thursday's semifinal against hosts Equatorial Guinea.

Rais Mbolhi and Algeria didn't have the same fortune as they were ousted in Sunday's other quarterfinal, dropping a 3-1 result to the Ivory Coast.

The Philadelphia Union goalkeeper was beaten on two headers from Manchester City forward Wilfried Bony (26th minute and 68th minute) before AS Roma winger Gervinho sealed the result on a breakaway in second-half stoppage time.

Mbolhi faced five shots on goal on the day and three finished in the back of the net. He was beaten by another header from PSG fullback Serge Aurier in the 23rd minute, but Mbolhi was bailed out by the right post.

The Algerians scored a momentary equalizer in the 51st minute through Hilal Soudani, but the same player couldn't give Algeria the lead on a point-blank look in the 66th minute. The Ivory Coast then promptly broke the 1-1 deadlock two minutes later and survived two late Islam Slimani attempt to see out the result.

The Ivory Coast next face the Democratic Republic of Congo and new Columbus Crew player Cedrick Mabwati on Wednesday for a ticket to the AFCON final.
