If a Gasol trade happens, it is probably a mutual decision. The Bulls have to probably go out early this year and next in the playoffs and Derrick has to get hurt. That's not my question. The claim around these parts is that we "can't" trade Gasol for risk of causing ill-will from agents and other FA's. I think that fear is unfounded and in some cases just an excuse for those who do not want to trade Gasol. However, for those that have this concern I want to know when, exactly, can we trade Gasol? This does not mean I want to know if we should trade Gasol. That is a different question.
I have no idea agents would work these days. Most players are so independent and are their own companies in a way. But, there is also good and bad vibes.
We don't know how much impact Wade's comments in 2010 had on the Bulls getting LeBron. But, the treatment of old Bulls stars definitely was made a big deal in the media. Who knows if it influenced some agents
Wade had an agenda and a conspiracy with Bosh and Lebron.
Look, players and FAs are not going to base their decision to come to Chicago if we decide to trade Gasol tomorrow. They will base their decision on how much money they're going to get and if they think they have a chance of winning here because that's what matters.
Here's what we can't do: If Gasol is not working out, we cannot just eat his salary while losing. And we can't trade other players who do fit better like Noah and/or Gibson because you want to make Gasol feel better. He is the weak link. He needs to go if it comes to that.
Having said that, I'm fine with riding with him this season and see how it plays out. I'm not giving up on him yet, but it is plainly obvious he is the crux of our current problems the Bulls are having as a team.
