If Larry Sanders is bought out...

Post#1 » by 2010 » Wed Jan 21, 2015 9:21 pm

If Larry Sanders is bought out by the Bucks, would any of you want/expect the Knicks to pursue him? He's an athletic 6-11 PF/C who can block shots and run the floor. However his offense is non-existant, he has zero passing or post-up skills, and he seems to have some character/personal issues with reports he's no longer interested in playing in the NBA and a drug violation resulting in a 10-game suspension. Can Phil Jackson reach him and work his zen magic? He would mask some of Okafor's defensive weaknesses.

If we are going through this culture change why would Phil bring in someone that may have drug and emotional problems? A well established team with strong veteran leadership would be in a better position to deal with someone like him, we are not there yet.

Id get him with character clauses on him which would void his contract immediately if he decides he doesnt want to play or continues to do drugs! Not sure why the NBA go NFL type contracts!

10 days can be had by everyone in my book. No need to close doors on anyone that desires to play and be part of the new era. However, I would also implement some behavioral aspects to my guidelines when choosing who should get a longer contract. No harm in handing them out if the roster spot is available, and the contract is a possibility.

Normally I would pounce on the guy with talent, but this dude can't even get his act together in Milwaukee. Id roll the dice if we could get him for the minimum, but there's a bunch of teams that would roll the dice on him before us. He COULD make a solid playoff team into a deadly title contender IF his head was on right.

So...what's your feeling on JR Smith again? And the followup question if the response is "yeah but JR Smith wasn't worth 2 years $13 million"..."would you take JR Smith back for the minimum?

But this is a guy who could be potentially had for the minimum after his buyout. I doubt any team will be interested in offering any kind of substantial contract considering his desire/drug issues. We gotta take some calculated risks here since we don't have draft picks besides 2015 and 2018. How much of a risk is it really if it's only a minimum deal? I see it as no difference than the Lamar Odom contract situation. If his head ain't screwed on right, you cut him and move on. We gotta buy low.

EDIT: ...and it's different with JR Smith. JR is a guard. Nope, I wouldn't take him for the minimum. But I'd roll the dice on a defensive big with character issues for the minimum. Just to take a look at him up close.

I'm onboard with the culture change edict but there's a disclaimer for defensive bigs

Truely not worth it, a true problem person thru and thru. I've heard many rumblings about how shady he is as a person while he was at VCU in the Richmond area... And now all this in the NBA. This guy is not going to just change, he is a problem. No thanks.

He's beyond damaged goods. He wanted to quit the NBA...let him quit.

If he simply didn't like Milwaukee they would have traded him. He's talented. But this shows he finished!
