I say he!! to the no.
With Durant we win championships. Plus, he's a way better person. And gawd, he's one of our own.
If you're going to dream, dream big.
Given where TV revenues are heading on the next deal and considering that we'll have Gortat coming off the books a year after Cousins hits the UFA market, it's not inconceivable to imagine that Washington could add him to a team already featuring Wall, Beal and Durant.
Washington could renounce Porter following the 2017 season and use the stretch provision on Gortat's contract to free up additional cap room heading into the 2018 offseason.
I think any trade for Cuz would require Beal to be a part of it, and that might actually be a good thing. Remember, Beal's cap hold in the 2016 offseason is going to be a LOT higher than his 2015/2016 salary. If the Wiz trade both Gortat and Beal in a Cuz trade, they'll be SAVING cap space for the 2016 offseason. And remember that Sac has McLemore and Stauskas - so one of them would presumably go to Washington. Question is - would Sac consider Beal to be a major upgrade over McLemore - or could they play them together?
It would seem Beal would really need to go to a third team that would be willing to give up assets for him that can be flipped to Sacramento. Has me considering whether New York would trade their 1st for Beal, Gortat and our 2015 1st. They would be trading down in the draft, but would still have massive expiring contracts. If their philosophy this summer is to go after free agents, it would be wiser to have a team around Melo to recruit people.
It would really be on Sacramento. If they traded Cousins I am guessing they would want to reset. 2 lotto picks in this draft could be HUGE to quickly turn the ship around w/o Cousins. Of course, this would really only occur if Cousins requested a trade.
