Rookie-Sophomore Challenge now: U.S. vs. World

Post#1 » by Jamaaliver » Sat Jan 24, 2015 6:04 am

The Rising Stars Challenge at this year’s NBA All-Star Game weekend will feature a new format with first- and second-year players from the United States against first- and second-year players from around the world, the league announced Wednesday.

The game will be played Friday, Feb. 13 at Barclays Center at 9 p.m.

The league’s assistant coaches will select 10 U.S. players and 10 international players for the game with one ballot for each of the 30 teams. Both 10-man rosters will include four guards, four frontcourt players and two players regardless of position. Each team will also feature a minimum of three first-year players and three second-year players among the 10 spots.

I'm a little out of the loop regarding 1st and 2nd year players...does this new format hurt or help in Dennis' bid for a selection? With our top record, it seems a cinch he'll be selected...but can he expect to start?

Play heavy minutes? I'd love to see KK win the 3 pt Shootout and Dennis to bring home MVP of the Junior All Star Game.

For 'The World', I'm thinking it'll be like half the Minnesota T-Wolves young core: Wiggins And Anthony Bennett of Canada. Gorgui Dieng of Senegal.

Plus Giannis, Steven Adams and Dennis.

Maybe Exum and Nurkic.

There seems to be a dearth of guards. So Dennis suddenly seems like a lock not only to make the cut, but lead the team as one of the few vet wing players...this being his fourth season of pro basketball.

By most opinions Dennis is a lock as the starting point guard and it doesn't hurt that his own coaches will be running the show. Questions are more over whether Pero will get another selection after he missed last year's game due to an ankle injury. All Star weekend could shake-out to have a lot of Hawks participating.

Don't forget about Mirotic. He's probably going to start.

:o

You think Mirotic gets the start over Dieng, Adams, Giannis and Wiggins?

I do think Mirotic has a decent chance to make the team. It'll be interesting to see how it shakes out...

It is going to like this

Schröeder/Exum
Wiggins/Bogdanovic
Antetokounmpo/Mirotic
Olynyk/Dieng
Gobert/Adams

vs.

Carter-Williams/Payton
Oladipo/McLemore
Muhammad/McDaniels

This seems like a very likely lineup.

But how ironic will it be if every Center selected in the 1st round of the 2013 NBA Draft is selected to this thing...except Lucas 'Bebe' Nogueria?
