Semi-OT: Rose Visits Another Chi Funeral

This cropped up on social media just recently (this is a new one, not the funeral he attended a while back). It's refreshing to have such a likeable star player, and while we're often quick to critique Derrick on this board whether on-court or off it, it's nice to keep some perspective. Rose has never forgotten his roots and does everything without fanfare or PR intentions. Respect.

Also, here's a couple of comments from reddit -

I posted this... He came to my cousins funeral. My cousins death was NOT a violent death. Derrick Rose is friends with an extension of the family so he wanted to come and show his support to our family. He didn't make a scene.. He stayed for the service, waited on us to exit and paid his respects to us. Really humble guy and I will forever appreciate him for what he did.

Thanks for saying so, great to see Rose being a human.

A friend of mine offers a free medical clinic once a month in underprivledged areas. She's told me stories she's heard about Rose being present at kids funerals, kids sports gams, kids fund raisers, etc. She said he's known to come unannounced with security but he comes quietly and leaves quietly, just wants to be apart of the community and try to make someone smile.

She said it's something many of them talk about. I'm certain she's not making it up but obviously we don't know how true the lore is. In any case, I get goosebumps when she tells me about it.

That karma will follow him onto the court. Nothing but good things coming Rose's way.

I think it was Patrick Beverly that said Derrick does more outreach in the community then people realize. This is cool.

Losing someone close to you is so very hard, being able to put a smile on that familys face during a time like this is a priceless gift.

Through it all, this has never changed about Rose. It's refreshing.

He cares more about his community than most will ever realize.

Gar: I never said that and correct me if I'm wrong.
KC: You were asked that question at the news conference announcing Thibodeau's dismissal and you answered yes

This is why the inner city people love the guy so much even after being gone 2 years. Classy guy who never forgets where he's from.

Now if only he could get some of these other famous Chicagoans to do the same.

Here's an article about it... not a lot of info, though.

I guess the media was busy talking about him call out his team that they forgot to mention this. SMH...

Rose seems like a great humble guy so when I see guys like Barkley and others go after in the media you sometimes wonder...WHAT IS THE REAL REASON FOR IT?!?

Humility should be in his name. Great Ambassador for my hometown, much love to Derrick.

People go to funerals everyday, it's called paying your respect.
