Albeit much lower expectations for us, the Suns could be going through the same thing the Cavs were going through

Re: Official Trade Thread: The Block Is Hot!!
Gambo and Ash were just on talking to McD.....after the discussion Gambo stated that he knew inside discussion were about Goran and IT. He said we will not be bringing back 3 PGs next year, but the conundrum is, do we trade IT and keep Goran or do we keep IT and let Goran walk?
If we trade IT and Goran still walks because he gets an absurd offer, leaves us with neither. If we keep IT, then we can't keep Goran. So that is the basis of the issue.
I think you have to trade IT!

It depends on who you could get in a trade. For instance, if the best offer for Goran is simply Houston's crap (and even if they include DMO, it's crap), then you trade IT. If Goran has a real offer from a team that has guys we could actually develop and use, then it's more of a possibility.

You absolutely trade IT. Having Goran on this team is better for the young guys development, team balance and for attracting FA's.
Worst case if you trade IT and Goran walks, you are left with Bledsoe/Ennis rotation, which isn't crippling for a rebuilding team.

If Goran walks would we have enough cap space to make an offer to Wes Matthews?

I don't believe so, because the Morrii extensions kick in. Plus, with Tucker and IT not the books, we're locked it to what we already have financially.
Goran is a free hit because we can spend whatever to retain him, and if the cap explodes it might not even become a tax problem - his salary could just eat up the buffer between the cap and tax limits.

The irony is that we signed him because we got him at what we thought would be a valuable deal, and that worst case he would have high demand around the league and we could flip him for something.
Even with teams now suffering from starting PG injuries, he still doesn't look like a desirable asset. Compound that it's the fact that he may even cost us our star player in free agency and you have one botched FO decision.

It reminds me of how people thought the Suns had valuable assets with all their 1st rd picks in the '14 draft and yet when McD tried to trade them away to pick up players or future 1st rounder, nobody bit.
I think our so called "assets" have less value than we think.

Where does Tyler Ennis fit into all this? Isn't he the 4th PG?
And would the Suns really let Dragic go away twice?
Especially considering Sarver personally went out of his way to bring Goran back to PHX in the first place?
As a business minor myself, I think the Suns marketing team has to know that Dragic is a fan favorite and brings in millions in ticket revenue, merchandise, events etc. For a team that already isn't very great in terms of fan attendance, I do wonder if they would be willing to let their primary cash cow walk.

All I know is, it isn't as easy as going to the trade machine and making something up. It is a tough situation! I'd trade IT for expiring and pick/s. Need to free up money for Goran or a Mathews type. But you could keep IT until the season is over to see where Goran is and who opts out.

+ 1 billion
Especially in a PG rich league.

Disagree here. Look at IT's numbers and advanced stats. He has value. He may be the most productive per dollar in the league if you remove rookie deals.
And even in a PG rich league, he's better than all but about 15 or 20 of them.

Am I the only person on this board who prefers IT to Dragic?

I don't, but I can also understand the logic in choosing to roll with him. He's 3-4 years younger, and will make at worst half of what Dragic makes, and is not that much worse than him in terms of production.

This one I agree also, except I think McD needs to offer a little bit more.
On the previous trade thread, I mentioned.
Thomas, Green, Plumlee
for
Bradley, Sullinger
Suns can add a future lottery protected pick to make it work.
Sullinger is a 17/10 PF, a pretty good PF.
If that happens, Suns can afford to lose the Morris twins (via trade) to fill other spots... perhaps a legit SF like a Batum or a Chandler.

IT has some value. For instance, does anyone here think that Houston, while they want Dragic, would really reject IT for the NOP and salary filler? I mean if you hit in the draft with a late lotto and got a guy as productive as IT, wouldn't you call that a win?

Yes, we could possibly loose both of them, which would suck. You gave 2 scenario's but left out the 3rd, which is to keep IT and trade Dragic. You dont let him walk, you get whatever assets you can for him.
