The guy can't defend anyone, can't throw it in the ocean 9 games out of 10, and does virtually nothing to get anyone else involved in the offense when he has the ball in his hands. Sounds like the kind of indispensable player that we can't do without in the rotation. I mean if the guy was here on a long term contract, was unmovable, and Cliford was desperate to get him into some kind of rhythm or role on the team that might be one thing but this guy will be gone from Charlotte forever in thirty some games so why we feel obligated to ever have him leave the bench is beyond me.

I thought I had said everything I had to say about Gary Neal last March-May. Some highlights below. But he is just killing us. I am ready for Cliff to bench him and give his minutes to Jeff Taylor (who hit 2/3 on 3s last time he played). Try anything different! Shut Neal down!

I hate his game.
This guy is a sourpuss and a bad fit for a team built on chemistry.
Taking on his contract for next year changed that trade from just bad to downright stupid.
I want him gone.

Just because he can create his own shot doesn't mean he should. His game is eerily similar to Ben Gordon. His defense is a liability. He's a horrible passer.
What we need is a shooter who takes open 3s. Frankly, I preferred Anthony Tolliver in that role before Neal came in.

If you go back and look at the game thread in Neal's first game with CHA, I immediately said I don't like his game, I don't think he's the right "shooter" for this team.
Of course Clifford's gonna dap Neal up, we've now got to pay his salary for one more year. Trade, Gary.

Always thought it was a bad trade. If we wanted somebody to run around like a chicken with his head off and jack shots all bat crazy then we shoulda just kept Ben Gordon until he expired that yearand gave him the same type of freedom because he's better at it. Don't even get me started with us adding Ridnour over Sessions. Lol

Agree for sure.
My point now though is if you can't trade Neal shut him down! Try Taylor. Give all Neal's minutes to PJ! Could those two play any worse? In the last 10 games Neal's shooting sub-30% on almost 10 shots a game. Last night he had 4 turnovers! How doees that not get him benched??? Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is insanity.

Blame Cliff. Neal is his coach's pet. He'll play Neal no matter what. Neal could shoot 2-20, have 5 turnovers, get 20 straight points scored on him, and Cliff would still get in the postgame and say that he liked what he seen from Neal because he played with good #energy.

I could only imagine how happy & 'humble' Ben Gordon would've been if we gave him the same leash as Gary Neal. Instead of the inopportune performances of Neal, at least Gordon would've gave us a few 30+ point games

Trade the whole team. No one is worth keeping.

Just how bad does Neal have to play to lose playing time?

It would probably take a pep talk from Cho or Jordan about Neal's poor play to make Clifford divert from his plan of giving the veteran savvy formerly of the Spurs championship consistent playing time. However, I doubt either of Cho or Jordan would want to overstep their boundaries of telling Clifford how to do his job because I'm sure they wouldn't want Clifford doing the same to them even though they're his overseers

I don't think Maxiell or Neal will ever get benched as long as Coach Cliff is here.

max was completely out of the rotation before the injuries, so that comparison doesnt really apply.

Maxiell has to play right now. Neal on the other hand has been complete garbage. I would play Hairston over him and Lance right now easily, and its not even close.

This sums up Lance Stephenson this season in a nutshell. Video thanks to our very own Lamar

Neal has been better the last couple games in that he has actually been shooting above 40% in our last four. The only reason I'm not screaming for PJ to get more time is because I don't really trust PJ's handles and I want someone other than Lance on the floor with the second unit that is capable of handling the ball.

Trade deadline is 2/19. I'm going to be very frustrated if Neal is still on our roster on 2/20, though I recognize that he could turn it on after the break and suddenly become pretty valuable. If he could hit 40% from three going forward (barely above his career %), that would be huge.

Last year Neal shot 45% from three in 13 games in March. In February and April though he shot 19% and 29% on the same number of attempts. I don't trust that he'll put it together for an extended period.

Please. He certainly doesn't earn his money. His next four contracts are going to be because he once played for the Spurs. Based on his time in Milwaukee and Charlotte, he'd be out of the league.

EDIT: Never mind, I started this thread *throws up all over laptop*. I'll change the title.

If Big Al was Clifford's crutch then Neal is Clifford's walker.
