First, when I say win now, let me be specific and say I mean "grabbing the 8 seed". And certainly any of Lance Stephenson, Thad Young, Marvin Williams, Reggie Jackson, Gerald Henderson, Luol Deng, Chris anderson, and others not in recent rumors on say Denver's roster could help us obtain that goal.
We are .5 games out of the 8th seed to a team that just lost one of its best players to injury and whom we'd be potentially trading with and taking some of their key players. We aren't a good team, but neither are the teams we are competing with for that 8th spot. Miami also just lost wade for an extended period of time. The playoffs are there if we can make some changes.
We are already were a laughing stock since the day King was hired. We were a laughing stock starting 11-20 under Kidd and we are a bigger one with leaving to the Bucks that have a winning record while a respectable coach runs into the same mess Kidd was in at this point in the season a year ago.
Worrying about a damn lotto pick is ridiculous at this point. What difference does making the playoffs make? We will get swept by Atlanta while gifting them a mid first round pick.
The playoffs mean a lot. It would be more experience for plumlee and the first trips for Bogdanovic and Karasev. Additionally it keeps a streak of playoff seasons together, and from a PR standpoint helps compared to being a bigger laughing stock. Not giving the hawks a lottery pick isnt major, but it isnt irrelevant either.
I care about the future and all trades should be giving us assets and prospects. We have no pick next season. We should be looking at different ways to compensate. Not win now.
The picks we would get would be non lottery. the prospects we would be low level or not worth it as we'd need to give them bigger paydays that run into our 16-17 cap space. we should look to add those minor future assets in addition to the pieces that help us now, but it should not be in place of them.
If we had guys that could get us lottery picks, or legit rookies who could be future all-stars, sure, im all for that.
But honestly, im not sure how the Jeremy Lambs of the world or the Nick Stauskus of the world help us. those guys are maybe solid role players or starters but you end up investing like 4-8 million a year on those guys in 16-17 when they need new deals which just chews into our cap space.
for me i dont see how lamb is better then lance for us. or how he is better then thad young for us.
Also, as a fan im someone who hates this "you either win it all or you suck" mentality these days where its win a title or tank. for me there is alot of value and enjoyment as a fan making the playoffs. i know alot of people here are newer fans that became fans because of the kidd era, but being an older fan ive seen some droughts of really bad teams.... i appreaciate any time we can be in the postseason a lot. to me that means a TON. certainly more then getting some minor future assets
