Tony Snell Showing Signs

I started a thread about Snell's nearly historic streak of ineptitude, and in the interest of fairness, I'm starting a thread about him finally showing signs. I've actually been fairly impressed with him lately, and even have found myself wishing for him to come back into the game at times. It's a strange feeling.

One thing I've noticed is that his teammates seem to trust him a ton more. Before they would often look past him. Now they're willing to get him the ball.

His shooting still needs a lot of work. He's not automatic when left open, but I've really impressed with his slashing ability. He's actually better at getting to the hoop than he is at shooting. Finally, he's becoming a competent defender. In the past, people would say he was a good defender, but they were wrong. He was a pretty poor defender who often didn't know where to be. That's starting to change now.

Obviously we should still look for an upgrade if we can find one, but he deserves credit.

9.4 ppg, 2.2 rpg, 1.2 apg, 18% 3pt FG, 40% FG, 27 MPG

He has played better.

It is such a bummer the Bulls desperately need shooting, and it is also the one thing he seems to be bad at. Which should have been the thing he is good at.

But currently, relying on him and Hinrich for 40+ minutes total is killing this team. I think it's the biggest reason the Bulls struggle. That and Derrick Rose being bad.

Snell has real potential, I still believe. You know, you play him more minutes more consistently.. And he starts to show signs..

Snell is playing better. But he still gets no respect from opposing defenders and not playing well enough for what the Bulls are trying to accomplish this year.

I don't think he's going to get there at any point this year. His playing time is very inconsistent already and with his shot not falling very often, he will probably be phased out once Dunleavy returns.

I think he's still playing terrible to be honest.

Guy consistently misses wide open shots, makes 1 or 2 ok plays a game, then does pretty much nothing for long periods in between. Still gets lost on defense far too often for supposedly being a defender.

For all the Rose, Noah and whatever talk, its embarrassing how thin our depth turned to be.

Mike is already overplayed due to it, but without him, 60 minutes of Hinrich, Snell, Moore, etc, is real bad for a serious contender to put out.

And Brooks isn't that much better when he has to be used around 20 or more as some kind of serious offensive piece to bolster our playmaking and scoring.

lets hope he can give us the same thing when he is on the bench and DUnleavy back in the lineup that would make us a better team, as for the future i really think he can be pretty good all around player!

He needs to be more consistent in knocking down those open 3's. That's what we need from him the most. I thought he's played pretty solid lately. He hustles for the ball, getting steals off of passes, and has been sticking to his guy on defense.

He is a better defender than Niko. That speaks volumes about how bad Niko is.

Snell's shooting though is way worse than Niko's defense.

So, yeah, our SF rotation is screwed until Dun-Dun gets here.

SIgns of what? Snell makes one-three moves to the basket and people think he's vastly improved but he makes so many little mistakes that it's infuriating to watch him. I've rarely seen an athletic person not use their athletic ability as much as Snell seems to.

I can't believe McDermott is significantly worse than this and if he is, oh boy is that going to turn into a huge risk to a huge blown opportunity (and I love McDermott and still think he's better than Snell).

I said the same thing in the Gt last night, Homo. Snell looks MUCH better penetrating off the dribble than he has ever looked shooting the ball from deep.

On his best days he's scoring more points than Hinrich, his length is more bothersome and his athleticism/speed is more readily apparent.

Snell is pretty bad. I know he shows a flash here and there but he's an end of the bench guy. Maybe he can turn himself into a defensive player that can come off the bench but his offense is busted.

This is a guy who less than a month ago was competing for one of the worst PERs of all-time. He's suddenly looking like he's on the cusp of being a rotation player. I'm not saying we should anoint him as a future piece or anything, but he deserves credit. For someone who seems so fragile, I fully expected him to just give and continue to let his career die. So yeah, I'm happy to see him playing better and actually making some aggressive plays

I'd still rather see McDermott out there too, but that's a different subject.

I can't believe McDermott would play significantly worse than several Bulls players right now. Even if he was a hot mess, I think he needs minutes to start developing. A 2OT game at the front of a back-to-back right after another OT game is exactly where you find minutes for the rookie. Thibs' lack of long-term vision is driving me nuts. <yargh>

He played over 1200 minutes last year and now this low bar is showing signs? He's a guy who showed signs in college and then completely disappeared, it's who he is. Could he change, absolutely but the possibility of him not changing is way greater so even if he gets somewhat better from time to time, he's going to just flat out disappear and with that, not a good rotational player.

the question we should be asking is: Is Tony snell a better option than Kirk Hinrich?

Kirk has averaged 27 minutes this month and in that same time span averages about 4-5 pts in those minutes. Last night he played 27 and scored 2 points. He's had way too many nights where he plays 25+ minutes and barely manages to score 3 points.

Snell has upside and with regular consistent minutes (like Kirk gets) you know he can score more points than that

I get drunk and call him MVP... He's been playing better but he'll disappear again when Dunleavy comes back.
