Re: GT: Hornets @ Denver Sat Jan 31 9PM EST
Some nice time off during this road trip, hopefully we can pull something off Saturday.
Denver won last night against NOP but had lost 7 in a row before that. This week has been pretty brutal for them - they played home against the Wiz Sunday, @ LAC Monday, @ NOP yesterday, they play tonight @ MEM and then they play us Saturday for their fifth game this week.

Al flat out dominated Denver last year. He should do the same here

Re: GT: Hornets @ Denver Sat Jan 31 9PM EST
This would be a huge win, but I'm not expecting it. Al did dominate the Nuggets last year, but will he be winded 5 minutes in due to altitude this time around? I sure hope not, because he looked like his old self (on offense and on the boards at least) last night.
Still keeping hope alive, we're in the 8 spot at the start of tomorrow's game no matter what. We just need to stay in striking distance until Kemba returns, it's not going to be easy but the other candidates (Brooklyn, Detroit, Indy, Orlando) aren't exactly coming on strong either.
Also, coach, please play Vonleh in both halves this time.

He dominated them earlier this year, if I remember correctly. He almost had 20 in the first half, but he didn't score much in the second half because it was such a blowout that he didn't play as much.

Re: GT: Hornets @ Denver Sat Jan 31 9PM EST
Brian Shaw just threw his entire team under the bus last night. A few players shot back that it was the fault of both players and coaches. Sounds like trouble is brewing in Denver, hopefully we can capitalize. I think if we get off to a strong start tonight it could go a long way if the blame game is truly underway for that squad

Beat them so bad they fire Shaw afterwards. That'd be a fitting end, after our history with him (i.e., he reportedly rejected our offer to make him head coach and said that he wanted to be in a situation where he "had a chance").

He wasn't wrong. Any coach that came here would've been taking on a dumpster fire at the time.
That being said, we really didn't miss out on anything either because he's done nothing but get the absolute least out of his talent pool in Denver.

Re: GT: Hornets @ Denver Sat Jan 31 9PM EST
The difference between Clifford saying guys aren't showing up and Shaw saying it is that Clifford talks to his guys about it and they respond. Reading Shaw's quotes, Clifford has said things that are not that far off but I think he has more credibility with our guys because he has built up a relationship with them. I've never seen anyone on our squad publicly say something negative about Cliff.

Most of our guys simply can't because they don't have the standing to do so. The young guys are young - and some of them were around for the BAD seasons. Older guys are getting more responsibility, touches, and rope than they would on most other teams in the league.
It doesn't make sense for a single player to really go at Clifford. I don't think using outspokenness as a gauge to assess communication between players/coaches really works well.

It doesn't matter, you don't act that way, ESPECIALLY when you are just trying to land your first head coaching job. One season after Shaw made those remarks, Clifford was taking this team to the playoffs and he looks to do so again this year. We have a nice core of young players and, going forward, we have lots of opportunities to get even better (e.g., we have lots of cap flexibility, we don't really owe any future draft picks, etc.).
What Shaw did, it was disrespectful and I'm delighted to hear that he's been a failure.

Re: GT: Hornets @ Denver Sat Jan 31 9PM EST
Yeah, the Shaw situation was a little douchey from a Charlotte fan perspective. I completely understand if they guy didn't want to take over our squad at that time, and I don't begrudge him for it, but if you're that certain it's pointless than don't interview with that organization in the first place. It just makes you come off as arrogant when you allow a team to interview you and then rejecting them on the basis you had no chance of accomplishing anything worthwhile there. Why waste your time or theirs? Rightly or wrongly it just looked like he interviewed here to lift his own profile by stating publicly that the Lolcats were below him, which is not a classy look. I don't necessarily want him to fail, but it sure looks like he's coming up short with a very talented Denver team. Brian Shaw was mostly likely right that he couldn't succeed as head coach of our team, just not for the reason he expected.

And what happened before? You cant expect anyone to sign on for what would've obviously been the worst season of all-time - people don't want that on their resume. Tanking or not. And Clifford taking the team to the playoffs this season is just.. ugh. I don't see how anyone should/could/would brag about this season so far. Its an embarrassment on all accounts. We may as well hate on every single guy who didn't return our phone calls or turned us down - but that'd mean we'd be holding up a "this guy sucks" sign for the overwhelming majority of the year. Hating on Shaw for our dumpster fire not being interesting as a job opportunity is a bit silly imo.
On topic though, Denver's interior isn't the same as last years or even earlier this season. I don't like how our team looks when we're showing our hand whenever Al is on the court (he's getting the ball all de time). Should be an interesting game but I REALLY think we could've used an addition to the point guard position by now. If that meant cutting JT, it should've happened. And I like JT too.

Re: GT: Hornets @ Denver Sat Jan 31 9PM EST
I think it was a Kerr/NY situation tbh. He didn't want to tank or have that kind of a record on his resume. Some coaches are okay with it, some think they can win despite it, some think they can convince the FO otherwise. With the media the way it is now, I expect a lot more things to come out that people don't necessarily agree with.
(The biggest one of this year being coaches applying for jobs that are already taken - Kidd, Jackson, etc)

Sounds like a good chance Marvin Williams (concussion) will be cleared to play Saturday vs. Nuggets.

PJ Hairston sprained his left ankle at practice. Does not appear serious.

but more importantly, is Pargo healthy enough to play? we need to get him on the floor so that we see less of Lance and Neal.

It has nothing to do with him turning us down -- it's how he responded afterwards, including comments to the media that essentially insinuated that he "wouldn't have a chance" here in Charlotte. In response to why he turned down our offer, he said:
"I want to be in a situation where I have a chance," Shaw said. "Usually when you come into your first head coaching job, you don't get to dictate what the situation is going to be. But you want a chance and an organization that has a game plan going forward that's sustainable and where you have some pieces of value where you can put things together and get on the fast track."
Taken from: http://www.dailynews.com/sports/2013031 ... pportunity
I'm sorry, that's disrespectful, especially coming from someone with no head coaching experience.
He took over the reigns of a damn near 60-win team, led them to 36 wins, and is on pace for an even worse record this year. Meanwhile, the team that where he "wouldn't have had a chance" because it didn't have a "game plan" to get things going "on the fast track," they went from the league's worst team to a playoff team during that time.
Apparently his skills at predicting the future are on par with his abilities as a head coach.
