3-14 since the new year but king is uber optomistic that we will win the east or something. get this effing clown out of my face.
He's used every excuse imaginable to justify why the Nets don't play well and it ultimately somehow comes back to injuries.
I've never seen a GM refuse to look at the fact that injuries are reason why you should trade players while they're healthy.
Seriously, what do we gain by waiting to the deadline? If the Nets play even a little better, we fight for the 8th seed, get smacked around by the likes of ATL or CLE in the playoffs and we have no opportunity to acquire players who could be better for our roster in the future.
If we continue to lose, other teams will low-ball us because it'll be obvious that the players King is trying to trade aren't making a big enough difference to win games.
He just doesn't get it.

This sounds like king trying to gain leverage against the other suitors here. If he goes up there and says "we need to trade these guys asap" would that be a good look? He's trying to get decent offers, here's hoping he knows when to pull the trigger.

He could've just kept his mouth shut.
The only team that could possibly be worried about this is OKC and that's if they're not able to gain ground on PHX. If they can catch PHX by the allstar break, the need for Lopez goes way down and so does the quality of the package they offered for Lopez.
He doesn't know what he's doing. He's proven that time and time again.

you don't gain leverage by pinning yourself up against the deadline when you are 1.5 games out of the 8 seed and desperate to make a trade.
King loses any leverage he has by not trading brook while he is healthy.

He's trying to not seem desperate - a strategy I don't think is going to work. I feel like he asked for this interview to really try and put pressure on the other teams by announcing he's not desperate to trade any of these players. He's playing chicken with the other teams... But I'm not sure he's going to win.

Celtics fan here.. Hickson/Mcgee/1st seems like decent value for Brook on the surface, but it's probably a very late first (Memphis' pick this year?) and Mcgee has been completely off the map for the last two seasons. Probably better to pay Lopez for another season than take on those guys just to make a trade. But I wonder if King is trying to move Deron or Joe first.. He knows he'll have less leverage once Brook is gone, because he's the one with the most value and it'll be clear to other teams you're trying to rebuild, so they'll lower their offers.

Reggie Jackson better then Deron Williams?
Try again. Jackson is a combo guard who can't run an offense.

After last nights win, Billy probably has us as favorite to 9-peat. no traded needed, extend lopez and johnson to 12 year deals

Billy King is outsmarting himself. Teams know the Nets need to move pieces in order to make a push for the playoffs (that appears to be Billy King's mission at this point). However, with the current roster it is going to be a difficult task to make the playoffs. I'm to the point where you take the best offer available. Right now it's Denver's. OKC will come on strong down the stretch, I doubt they call back. The Wolves either. What other options could he possibly be waiting on? Make a deal already King before someone gets hurt then you're stuck with the same pieces.
OKC Thunder fan, too.

Today's Billy King:
Wallace trade Billy King:
HYPOCRITE!!!!!!!!!
"We're not going to make a deal just to make a deal." -- Nets GM Billy King
Wallace trade Billy King:
King said it was difficult to give up the pick, but "in meeting with our scouts, we felt the player that we may draft beyond the protection would be somebody that would probably take a couple years (to develop), and at this point, we're trying to speed the process up a bit and start winning (more).
"I can understand the fanbase (wanting us to keep the pick), but I'd rather try to balance the roster, add a piece and still have cap flexibility," King said.
HYPOCRITE!!!!!!!!!

Reading the discussion off of this tweet is great. This guy is flat out calling Billy King a LIAR.
Which he is.

I can see how that is different though....
OKC calls about lopez offering perkins.... king wants no part of perkins, so he sees if he can spin him off and makes the call. the call wasnt billy originally inquiring, it was spun off from the OKC call coming in.
either way, screw king. everyday we dont make a trade is a day i hate him more.

OKC made it known they wanted to complete the Perkins/Lamb deal for Brook. The Hornets made it known they want none of Lance. Now, he's acting like none of it ever happened.
He's acting like teams are desperately calling him to get our guys and refusing to admit he made the first call on some of these proposals. Sure, It happens sometimes but it will eventually piss other executives off and he already has a shoddy reputation.
It only will make other GMs more motivated to rip him off and send low ball offers at the deadline.
