It was close. Gordon was a very good shooter even in high school & was a pretty sick athlete back then as well.

Rose was a better passer, unstoppable in the lane & the fast break. He was a historically great athlete when it comes to explosion, speed, and hops in high school. Literally even faster than 21 year old MVP Derrick.

Derrick deferred alot and got his team involved (won back to back state titles in an absolute stacked era of IL HS hoops and won a national title). Gordon's team was good too though, I think they beat Simeon their Junior year.

Yeah at scoring. Gordon in high school could score and shoot better than Rose but Rose was faster and more explosive off the dribble

Gordon was better at shooting, and being assertive offensively. Rose deferred way too much for my liking. He even did it in college to the point in which Calipari had to yell at him several times to take the ball and score.

He's still nowhere near the allstar level he once was, but he's definitely coming back to life this past month. If he can somehow turn into an average SG, NOP will be a tough team to beat in the playoffs.

Being an Induana fan, I remember that year well. Rose was thought to be the better get because of his athleticism. Most HS rankings had Derrick at 2 and Gordon at 3.

But what a class! Derrick Rose (3), Blake Griffin (23), Kevin Love (6), James Harden (11), DeAndre Jordan (8), Eric Gordon (2), Chandler Parsons (19), Jeff Teague (57), Patrick Patterson (17), O.J. Mayo (4), Michael Beasley (1), J.J. Hickson (10), Evan Turner (49)

You're absolutely right and it's funny to think that now he's being criticized for the complete opposite :P

I think anyone that calls Rose selfish when he takes a lot of shots is off the mark, it's not his intention. Doesn't mean he doesn't have change his game until he improves again, though.

How the hell did Parsons fall so far? Will forever be confused about that one.

you remember wrong then. here are the composite rankings to go along with the individual recruiting service rankings.

eric gordon was ranked higher and he was the better player in HS. he was more physically imposing and aggressive. he was the better shooter and he was the better defender as well. derrick had playmaking in his favor, but lets be honest. derrick isnt and was never that great of a playmaker for a PG.

Wow.. What is really crazy is that the lowest ranked player in that group is probably playing the best of any of them right now.

Holy Crap. Teague is putting up 19.3 pts per 36, 8.6 assists, 2 steals, has a TS% of .569 , 22 PER, gets to the line, shoots .866% from it. has a stellar A/TO ratio.... and plays great defense. That is an all star.

Later in his post he had Gordon (2) presumably final rankings.

Rose was definitely ahead of Gordon at different times during HS though. I have been up on the DRose news since we were both in 8th grade and was following Gordon since his Soph year in HS.

It is very very hard to predict how a 17 year old will look at 25. The NFL just had a Superbowl in it where not one player was a 5star college recruit. Neither team, Seahawks and Pats had 0 fivestar guys. There was 9 twostar recruits in the game. Some of them like Wagner and Chandler Jones..

^ E'twaun was a great college player and my Illini got screwed on every angle in that recruiting class. Gordon screwed us. & by screwing us we missed out on E'twaun Moore who was a great 4 year college player who IL led for.

They also had a chance of landing Evan Turner & McCamey (package deal) but they were still holding out for Gordon & Rose together in the same backcourt trying to hold scholarships.

Could have had Turner, McCamey, and Moore in the same class.

Bastards.
