The only way he wins the rookie of the year is if Wiggins has a season ending injury in his next game, and then Noel goes crazy for the rest of the year.

Wiggins' not a two way player as advertised, his defense hasn't translated yet per player tracking and data. He's strictly an offensive player right now and that being considered, his jump shot has fallen off after the first month. Even with that ridiculous November shooting he's only hitting on 32.6% of his jumpers on the season. His entire game is predicated on playing at/above the rim, that's not bad, however Wiggins' hype is as prevalent as ever in that most assume he's something more than he is. I'm not condemning him, he's a raw prospect with a sky high ceiling, that's what I thought he was coming into this season and that's what he seems to be. To Minnesota's credit they have broken him out of his shell and have gotten him to throw caution to the wind, most thought he'd be timid.

Noel's not going to win ROY, however the margin between them as players, difficult as it may be to compare, is not astronomical.

Noel has better BPM, better VORP, within a point of PER, same differential in O to Drtg.

Not being homers, plenty of data to it. As I mentioned above, Noel is realistically among the best defenders in the league, that's what the numbers purport.

Totally agree with this. If you guys have been watching wolves and Sixers games, you'd know that Noel has much more positive impact on the court than Wiggins.

I think Wiggins is much more like Derozan, his offense is quite empty because he can't create opportunities for others. THus, he always has low assists numbers with non dominant scoring numbers. Then defensively, it takes a really elite swingman like LBJ or Pippen to carry a team's defense. And as good as wiggins is, he's just not good enough to carry a team's defense.

Personally this ROY race has been Wiggins' overrated offense over Nerlens' underrated defense. For a casual fan, it's Wiggins who's the better player between the two.
There’s never been a time in history when we look back and say that the people who were censoring free speech were the good guys.

I don't get this point. Isn't Noel leading all rookies in several stat categories...?

He's averaging 8 points a game on 44 % shooting. Never said it was fair, but voters aren't going to overlook that because of his DRPM. These general awards are still heavily biased towards offense.

I wrote a long post making a similar point on Tuesday morning and my browser crashed. This is the only board a I read and post at that doesn't auto save posts while writing them. The only things Wiggins has going for him in the ROY race is PPG and the perception of his defense when he came into the league. Won't matter that it isn't reality. If the year ended right now Wiggins over Noel for ROY would be a robbery. Noel leads rookies in rebounds, blocks, steals and in those last 2 categories his numbers are right there with the best in the league. Noel might even have a higher offensive rating than Wiggins if you didn't count January. Not saying you shouldn't count it just that things are inflated from just one month. I can't see Noel winning because even some people that claim to watch the games from Philly don't see how well he is playing. In the end I will be content with the improvement. Especially since he is still trending upward.

I could have sworn I watched Noel outplay Wiggins in a victory about a week ago. In fact, looking at this objectively, the real homers seem to be those who obsessively fantasize about a rookie on another team that is worse than Noel's team.

I think Wiggins should win ROY. I think it's pretty clear he's having a better rookie season than Noel. I think Noel is doing just fine though. I think most of the time people only care about offense and the casual fan just looks at Noel's points and say he's not good. Casual Sixers fans who waited a year to see this guy play thought he would be good on offense and are just amazed how raw he is on offense now. I hear Philly radio hosts talk about how there is nothing special about Noel. They are only looking at offense and how limited he is. Noel's awkard offense makes people think he is below average but they don't look at the defensive side of his play. I'm very encouraged by his defense because he has played about how I thought he would play. Even though I say Wiggins is better at this point doesn't mean I think Noel is nothing.

Noel still have a chance to be ROTY. Wiggins has 1 good month and now he looks like he is struggling again just like KJ.

Noel just needs to play more consistent, rack up double doubles and pad his stats with steals and blocks. If he does this the rest of the year and Wiggins continues his struggles, it can be a close race.

Elfrid actually played really well last month and Noel seemed to struggle in stretches of January, he came on strong at the end though.

NICE!

It's awesome that they are allowing Embiid to guard him like that. Good progress. :D

That would be awesome and one of the highlights to a already good year. I am so looking forward to seeing our twin towers playing on the court together, getting excited thinking about it.

I hope he plays this year too but I'm not getting my hopes up. If you max out Embiid's recovery from his surgery it could take up to 9 months. That falls in March. He needs to play.

I hope and expect that we won't see him this year. He needs to lose a good 25 pounds so hopefully we don't see him until summer league.

We have to be just as conservative with him as we were with Nerlens.

Yeah I don't see Embiid playing this year. He's no where near in game shape and there's a risk of injury for players not ready for grind NBA schedules, though I think he could get himself into better shape by actually playing.

Unless I am reading too much into this clip, and for all we know, someone yelled at him right after he did this because he wasn't supposed to move that much, but if he can guard Noel like this he should be able to run on a treadmill now, shouldn't he?

Hey Dbodner, I know that you have said that Brett Brown is good at saying nothing when asked about Embiid, but this video seems like a pretty good prompt for questions about the current status of Embiid's health.
