I know Skiles has been in my avatar for quite some time now, but it's for his competitive spirit on the court. I'm not sure he's the right guy to coach the team though. If he's hired, I'll be cheering for him, but I thing Malone or Karl would've been better choices. Just please, no that Mark Jackson person.

Do you thing Borrego will tamper with starting lineup?

cant see them hiring another assistant. They will hire someone with HC experience

Play the core, let Frye rest any injuries he has, let Payton figure it out, and get a good win here and there, then move into the off-season and choose a coach. We can meet with the candidates now, there is no problem with doing that, they will still be there in the summer, we should take our time, get some more talent, try and trade veterans for cap space and picks/young talent and make a decision on our coach and what they want to move forward. my personal prefence would be

1. Malone
2. Jackson
3. Karl
(he won't be coaching when we reach our prime)

If Thibs becomes available that's our guy, that's why we should wait

Karl is 64 right now. There isnt a reason why he couldnt coach another 8-10 years health staying good. Its not like he is running around on the court every night. If Nick Saban is coaching right now at 63, no reason a bball coach cant for years

I'm still almost positive it will be Skiles or Jackson. They want someone more defensive minded than Karl and Malone doesn't have enough experience.

Get George Karl in now. I can't see our season being rescued and us making the playoff but it doesn't matter. He can use the rest of the season to drill the team in how he wants us to play so we're ready to hit the ground running next season.

I think it's a good idea to wait until the summer where I think Hennigan will have more options and time to evaluate all his options. Who knows, Borrego could be a good coach. In the news conference I believe someone asked if his coaching philosophy is the same as Vaughn all he said was that he learned a lot from Vaughn as well as other coaches so you never know. Like I said way before Vaughn was fired, you cant assume you'll be getting the same thing from Borrego as you would from Vaughn because each coach has his own philosophy and style. I'm totally fine riding this out with JB as our coach.

If this doesn't guarantee a permanent head coach by the all-star break, I don't know what does. At the very least that is obviously their goal if they won't even say he's the coach for the rest of the season and we'll re-evaluate in the summer. Telling.

Has anyone brought up Avery Johnson? Not saying hire him but I think he should be considered.

Yeah I agree. Take your time finding a new coach and find the best man for the job. Unfortunately what the fans want and what management has decided doesn't always match up.

Just got to hope for the best I guess. If we somehow got Thibs, that would be a godsend. He's pretty much exactly what we're looking for.

Who says Thibodeau would even take this job? The problem with waiting until summer is that although there would be more coaches available, there would also be more competition for those coaches.

Yup. Bowden and Paterno both got to 80. The key is to hire good assistants and delegate as much grunt work as possible. Saban is going to need to learn that pretty soon, that guy is a maniac worker.

Like who? Is the expectation going to be that a bunch of teams are firing their coaches? This process doesn't need to be rushed. Hennigan needs to take his time and make sure they hire someone that's going to fit with the players we have.

It's hard to know and I wouldn't count on it, which is why I said "somehow". I do know that a lot of coaches see the Magic job as very attractive though. A lot of young talent. Good arena. Nice weather. Nice city. Solid fan base. No income tax. Apparently a lot of coaches see this job similarly to Golden State when Mark Jackson was hired. The pieces are there, so it can make a coach look good.

LoL!

I expect management to look for 3 things in a new coach: Defense first, player development and experience as a HC. Does Karl fit that criteria?

John Lithgow would be my favorite too.

Please, no Skiles! Not sure about Malone as he has a very short career so far and it's hard to evaluate.

In the WOJ thread I talked about this a little before the mod closed it. Borrego went over spurs film with the team before the game. Was it a coincidence the game was close? Maybe, maybe not. There is a chance we might promote him to HC in April a la Scott Brooks in OKC when Carlesimo was fired.

JB has a pretty good track record too. Seven years as Pop's assistant. SEVEN YEARS. In that stint SAS won two championships. But time will tell. If we do end up hiring a coach right now, I'd prefer Karl with Malone being the lead assistant. Unlikely scenario, I know, but it'd be pretty awesome. Of course, options do open if we wait until the offseason with Thibs and all. There's also the option of going for a hit-or-miss rookie coach a la Budenholzer or Kerr with the Hawks and Warriors.

Yea but what kind of assistant was he? Can anyone really shed light on his role in SA because he really is a mystery man despite being here 2+ years. We don't really know much about him other than his pre 3rd quarter interviews.
