Kinda surprised we don't have a discussion on the Ref fisaco

Post#1 » by Tenchi Ryu » Fri Feb 6, 2015 10:11 pm

As I'm sure most of you know, CP3 catching heat for criticizing the new rookie female Referee, even some going so far as labeling him sexist. Now let's put away for a minute that Clippers are a floppy and whiny team. I'm am quite surprised more of you aren't voicing opinions considering Ref bias has been a very popular opinion this season from you all.

I personally felt it wasn't a good excuse and that is all it was, just an excuse. But yesterday's game showed me that it can get worst for us then it already has been and the league needs to address this. Refs are starting to get too big-headed with this power they think they have, and instead of fairly giving calls or not, its a pick and choose system. If they feel like giving you a call, they'll give you one. And as we have seen all season from us and last night from the Clippers, if you piss them off they will kick you while you were already on the ground.

What was the issue even? She didn't call a foul for him when it really wasn't a foul?

I don't see anything wrong with what CP3 said. The refs need to be called out from time to time. Im frankly surprised a ref hasn't been knocked put by a hot headed player or two. To claim sexist remarks on that comment is REALLY reaching and speaks to the PC environment we have let flourish over the last 15-20 yrs. It actually severely turns me off that someone out there read CP3's comments and in their world, it read as an attack against a gender. Situations like this make me want to give up on society, or at the very least, Americanized society. Land of the Glee!

Media needed a story. Nothing sexist about what he said.

Sucks for him though. He isn't getting the benefit of the doubt from any ref for a while is my guess.

Something like that, then it got to the point where Refs were just effin with them. 5 techs in like a 3 min span.

In general his comments are pretty innocuous.

The issue on which the jury is still out is the last sentence "......then this is not for her".

Instead of questioning the excessive techs(and this is someone who hates CP3 and the Clippers).
the crux is "...for HER" which technically is the correct pronoun.
If they call that consistent like that all year I'd be shocked. This was a ref having a tantrum matching the player tantrum.
But refs have no oversight and get backed to the hilt--ridiculous.

Look over at the sexist comments--never mind the craptastic refs male and female.

Joey Im sure is very proud of that performance. Boring game, lets see how I can interject myself into it so I can become the story here.

1st off for the LOVE of god TNT keep Charles always from announcing games he is TURRIBLE at it,seriously I said shut up Charles in my head about 3 times in that spand of the video

2nd off What Paul said was not bad at all and the female ref like most refs was trying to show who is in charge which is bull because they always get a way with it because the league backs them 9 times outta 10

This is the stupidest non story in awhile IMO.

People keep saying when he said "she" or "her" that he was technically right to use those pronouns as if the default view was that he was some crazy sexist, but it's not technically incorrect for him to use she, because she is a woman.

That's ridiculous. What else was he going to do other than use the correct pronoun? Should he have called her an "it" or a "him" or spoken in the third person and said "the ref"? It's straight up silliness that it's even a question that we're ripping the guy for using correct grammar in the correct way when anything else would have made no sense whatsoever.

Nothing sexist even in the slightest.

Its funny though, with some players in the past like DWade, refs would anticipate the foul and blow the whistle even when there wasn't contact. With LAC, they have taking whining to such heights, refs now anticipate the tech and call it when it isn't completely warranted.

In general, I think those calls were a little heavy handed but I don't know what lead up to them. If LAC was whining and crying and arguing all night then I can see why the refs would say enough is enough.

Lets replace the comments and lets say they were addressed to a rookie male referee.

"Maybe this isnt the right job for him".

How would that be seen? I would find that as crossing a personal line.

As an older fella, I occasionally find myself struggling with political correctness in its myriad forms. When I heard Paul's comments were considered potentially sexist, I had to throw the flag. I mean, c'mon. An ESPN commentator said something to the effect that "the pronoun Paul used (she) seems to be the problem. We'll have to get an explanation from Paul to see what he intended."

Say what? I'm pretty sure Paul used "she" because he intended to accurately recognize the ref's gender.

If Paul gets in trouble for using "she," I think I'm going to officially give up on the whole political correctness thing.
Until the actual truth is more important to you than what you believe, you will never recognize the truth.

If Paul called her a "him", now that would have been a story, and kind of fun.

I agree.

Paul made his comments b/c he was frustrated, the techs were questionable AND the ref that made two of the calls is female.

As you said, I wonder if Paul makes those same comments if it was a male rookie ref?

What Paul said was implicitly sexist. Maybe I missed it but did he call out the vet ref for the first tech, b/c that was the worst call of the 3.

The third tech wasn't that bad a call. Jordan thought he got fouled on a dunk, which he didn't (so it was the right no call) and he looked in her direction and yelled "God damn it." He was demonstrative about it.

I didn't watch the game but knowing the Clippers and their players I'm sure they were bitching all night (they were getting killed) and both refs got tired of it. Maybe it was or wasn't justified in this case but in general refs need to put players in their place. The amount of complaining now is absurd, and that includes our players like Gasol, Taj and Rose, all who will not get back on defense because they are barking at the refs.

Final point, you guys really don't think NBA players give female refs more **** b/c they are female? NBA players (professional athletes in general) are egomaniacs and don't want to be shown up by a woman. It is a complete status/dominance thing.

Maybe it is possible that she overreacted b/c she felt the need to assert her power, but maybe she needed to do that b/c players have been disrespecting her. I am looking forward to the next time she refs one of our games, might be interesting.
When it comes to racism, people say: I don't care if they're black, white, purple or green Ooh hold on now: Purple or Green? You gotta draw the line somewhere! To hell with purple people - Unless they're suffocating - then help'em
