is it weird that I think Kyrie is more deserving than LeBron of MVP?

He's been healthier, and in nearly every close game it was almost always Kyrie sticking in the dagger on teams.

He was horrible when LeBron was out, except for the 55 point game. LeBron lets Kyrie play off the ball. He's made Kyrie a lot better.

2014-2015 NBA MVP Discussion

Bogut is a 12-16ppg scorer wasting his career in Golden State.
The same can be said for David Lee.
And Iguodala may be past his prime but he's capable of a lot more than 7ppg.
Curry/Klay jacking up thees is working though, so that won't change.

Bogut wasting his career. Right. What a waste it is anchoring a #1 team. Bogut is being used more on offense than ever since his elbow shattered. He's not someone who goes out and gets 12-16 every night. He definitely no longer draws defenses away from the perimeter so he's not doing anything to help Curry offensively the way prime Amare was.

Lee has declined as a player due to his injuries. Or at least he's not in rhythm yet that matches his prime, which wasn't anything close to prime Amare even then.

Iguodala has an almost irrational fear of scoring at times. He actually passes up looks at the basket to make fancy passes, probably due to FT issues.

Could have, should have-- the point is, none of these guys ARE currently helping Curry's shooting the way Nash was helped, which is the way it's supposed to be because of Nash's amazing playmaking. And isn't that what we were talking about-- who is a better shooter given the actual shots they take and defenses they face because of their teammates?

Curry is an inverse Nash. Curry is able to make plays based on how tightly defense cover him and his "gravity". Nash is able to shoot because his defenders feared his passing more than anything.

And no, GSW's #1 offense isn't Curry and Klay jacking up threes. Curry is penetrating and finishing more than ever. So is Klay. The entire offense is predicated on ball movement, like a somewhat sexier Hawks. Did you miss the repeated point that Curry was (at least recently) leading all time 2pt FG % for a guard?

^You don't have to defend (verbally) what Curry/Klay are doing, as like I said- it is working and they're winning so Golden State/Kerr has no reason to change the balance of scoring.
The true test of this system will of course be come playoff time.
And no need to compare Lee to Amare (I never did), Klay Thompson provides the scoring that Amare gave the Suns.
Lee and Iguodala still have the capacity of decent role-players (12+ppg each), and the fact that they're on the bench is not a slight on them but an indication of Golden State's depth.
As for Bogut you just have to look at his career before arriving in Golden State.
Bogut was all-star caliber (and it was considered dubious when he was not given an all-star birth) and still would be in other systems.

Yeah Kyrie just plays so much better with Lebron in the team. I think taking the ball out of his hands so he isn't initiating the offense every play really helps him and he plays a much more controlled game.

There is no doubt who our teams mvp is.

Probably curry but there have been 3 months of full basketball and Harden has taken player of the month 2 of those 3. I think it's closer than a lot of people think.

Rockets keep winning games w/o Dwight.

Harden is more valuable than Curry.

This is shapeing up as a good race , at this moment in time Curry has an ok lead with Harden within striking distance, but the big fast looming shadow of Lebron is closeing in on both of them, no doubt these last couple of months will determine who wins in this 3 horse race.

One thing we know for sure, the MVP will come from the West.
The East has lost so much respect now that the commissioner is taking seriously the notion of changing the playoff format (although I doubt enough owners will agree).
And the only Eastern team on Golden State's level is the superstarless Atlanta Hawks.
The other Eastern elite have probably lost more games already than Golden State will lose all year.
Curry and Harden will probably win the MVP for the foreseeable future, and neither have even peaked yet I suspect.

Kevin Durant was the MVP, but he has clearly been surpassed this year.
Kawhi Leonard is the defending Finals MVP, and its possible he will defend that title, we'll see.

Not sure exactly what you mean. He's not gonna win it this year? Correct. Someone had a better season than him last season? No one's really close when taking in all mvp considerations.

I was trying to figure out what/who NinjaSheppard meant when he wrote "Curry and Harden can battle for their "MVP".....Everyone knows who the real MVP is deep down tbqh" and whether he was referring to Durant or Leonard.

I think Davis should get the award if he can somehow manage to put the Pelicans in the playoffs

So pelicans without Davis were quite terrible.

This reasoning of "how the team plays when you sit" is a terrible narrative. Sitting games LOSES value for your team.

And the Pelicans have won several games without davis if I'm remembering correctly?
