Official Trade Thread: The Block Is Hot!!
Anybody see Clippers and Dallas upcoming schedule.. YIKES!!!! And we thought our 8 game stretch was tough! Clippers lose Blake for 4-6 weeks.
If Suns go on a winning streak, we may not look back. Perfect time Phoenix.

No word on exactly how long Griffin will be out. Definitely until the All Star Break, but he'll be re-evaluated after that. But the upcoming stretch of 8 games for the Clippers is brutal. Would be great to really make a push now.

I will say - if marcus can maintain the intensity on the boards he showed against Utah, he might be able to start next year. If Tucker gets pushed out of the starting lineup, we could let him go and have TJ back up Marcus. It all depends on the intensity of the Morrises and TJ - they all have the ability to rebound and defend, but motor is questionable for all of them.

One reason I wouldn't mind trading dragic is I think Bogdan bogdanovic is gonna be the long term answer at the 2 guard spot. He's been playing well in Europe and I love the fire the dude plays with. Sounds like it might be 2016 before he comes over but I would love to see him here a year early.
Call me crazy if you want but I got a good feeling about this dude.

I agree that Bogdanovic is going to be a player in the NBA, but I think having Dragic on the roster would give him an easier time to transition, Dragic speaks Bogdanovic's native Serbian and would be a good mentor for him on the team. Not that it's necessary for him to have a mentor, but I think that having Dragic groom him would be a wise move. I think the future of the guard rotation is Dragic, Bledsoe, Bogdanovic and Goodwin. Which gives us a pretty excellent backcourt for many years.

Re: Official Trade Thread: The Block Is Hot!!
No idea what the Suns are going to do. All I know is that I hate the three point guard system. I never even liked the two point guard system so obviously the three point guard system is probably one of the dumbest things I have seen in basketball. It is a gimmick that can win some regular season games because it catches teams off guard. However, as an actual playoff team, it is going nowhere.
Here are the facts: Dragic and Green will be free agents. Thomas wants to start. Len is out until at least the all star break. The Thunder and Pelicans are right behind the Suns. There are a few young guys on the team with mega upside not playing because the team is fighting for a playoff spot. What do you do about any of it. Trade Dragic/Green/and or Thomas to free up the guard log jam? Stand pat and continue to ride the season out and wait until the offseason? See what happens these next two games and make moves depending on where you are during the all star break?
If i had to speculate, I would guess that the team does nothing and evaluates the roster after the season. At this point, what is a trade going to do for the Suns based on the players available. Is there anyone out there on the block that can elevate the Suns to championship contender this year? Not that I know of. If McDonough was unwilling to give up one of his three first round draft picks last year for Pau Gasol who is a game changer, I doubt he is willing to give up assets this year for anyone. I get the feeling based on his short tenure so far with the Suns that he likes to make the big moves in the offseason, not during the season. I think the team rides out the season with its current players.

I'm trying to figure out how Bogdanovic can even be used here, especially if we keep Goran and Zoran. In 2 years at the SG position we would have: Goran, Archie, Bullock, Zoran. Even if you take the Dragic brothers out I'm still not sure that Bogdan makes the rotation.
I think we are definitely trading at least one of Archie, Bullock, Bogdanovic.

Goodwin and Bogdanovic would be an interesting off-the-bench combo next season. As in each gets 10-15 minutes with each other. Bogdanovic can slide to the SF position also because of his size.

The only way that we can keep all of Archie, Bullock, Bogdan, Warren and still give them all playing time in 2 years (They will all be too good to get DNP's) is if we get rid of Goran, Zoran, Tucker, Green, and Marcus.
SG: Goodwin/Bullock
SF: Warren/Bogdanovic
SG: Goodwin/Bullock
SF: Warren/Bogdanovic

Bullock is more of a "wing" player than a true 2 guard. I could see a scenario in which the Suns move Tucker, start Marcus and have Warren and Bullock as the backup 3 men. The guard rotation would look something like having Goran, Bledsoe start, Bogdanovic and Goodwin off the bench and then Zoran or Ennis as the 5th guard. I like IT, but I also think that of our guards he's the most expendable and the most easily tradeable, so if one of them is going to leave I think it makes sense for it to be him.

Well yeah.
I've been preaching that all year and late last year I just a didn't want to re-post it for the thousandth time.
Win or lose, the young players need to get minutes to see what they can do and for development. Usually if you throw capable players on the deep end they learn to swim quicker.

I wouldn't count on it. I believe that was the first double-double of his career.

And they were all defensive rebounds. Sometimes the ball just bounces your way.

sounds like Bogdan won't be here until the summer of 2016. By then a lot can happen roster wise. I do like him better as a prospect than goodwin, zoran, or bullock. In Len We Trust wrote:WeekapaugGroove wrote:One reason I wouldn't mind trading dragic is I think Bogdan bogdanovic is gonna be the long term answer at the 2 guard spot. "Regardless of who they are, the other two players on the floor are normally weak defensive players. With three point guards, the other two players have to guard up a level -- meaning a two on a three, three on a four and four on a five. Those players struggle in a traditional sense, let alone in handling a bad matchup.
There's also a bigger problem with the three points that no one is willing to say: none of them are point guards. Out of the three, the best point guard is Goran Dragic. Isaiah Thomas is a bench point guard. Eric Bledsoe is a two.
Goran is a natural two who understands the responsibility to create for others when he plays the point. A scoring point guard like Thomas is acceptable off the bench -- because a scoring point guard is often the best scorer off the bench -- but he's terribly over-matched as a starter.
Bledsoe is something different entirely. If Eric Bledsoe doesn't change, he will be a dream come true to those who think they understand the game of basketball. .....
Eric Bledsoe is a turnover machine who creates for himself. There's very little benefit to playing with him as a teammate because the defense always knows he'll shoot."
All said and done, the Suns HAVE to make a trade. Standing pat is not smart at all and ultimately will make this team worse. Until Tucker, IT, and Bledsoe are gone this team isn't going to get any better unless some superstar gets here!
I'm never going to change my stance. Those three are hurting this team more than helping.
Not that I'm the biggest Bledsoe fan but can you guess the other 4 guys averaging at minimum 17ppg, 6apg, 5rpg?
It's LBJ, Russ, Harden, and Tyreke. Not bad company.

Yeah, you guys shouldn't spend one second worrying about developing Zoran. Zoran, really? Who thinks we brought him over to develop him into a contributing member of the Suns? He is here for only one reason, he's Goran's brother.

We do also have the option of just letting Goran & Gerald both expire and not resign giving us some nice cap space which is always an asset. I see Greens production as being completely replaceable by Warren next year just on a cheaper contract. Losing Dragic would hurt more but we would avoid the huge deal he's going to want this summer. Food for thought.
Letting Goran walk would be unacceptable. You don't lose a top-25 player for nothing.
As for Green just gaining the cap space is enough...

yeah I'm with you, it would be really dumb to simply let Goran walk this summer. If he's still on the suns on 2/20 then they better have talked to his agent and be comfortable with the contract it's gonna take to resign him.DirtyDez wrote:mybloodisorange wrote:The real question is....if by some miracle we end up getting the top 5 protected Laker pick at 6-9 are you willing to use that as a trade chip or do we continue drafting more youngsters?

I think there's a better chance he's traded in the next two weeks than most posters. I'd put it at around 50/50 he's a sun after the Allstar break. I'd say Houston and Chicago are the two most likely destinations.

I wouldn't want to lose a top 50 player for nothing which is about where I'd put good Goran. Bad Goran isn't top 100.

The last two weeks have been too quiet.
Either they (Suns FO) have decided to stay pat or have a deal in place already, pending another move which won't be done until last minute.
