Regarding Korver new contract, it can be flat, decreasing or increasing.
The lower first year comes with a increasing contract, and would be $5,393,258.43

I've updated the Hawks Salaries Information thread :
at this moment, without counting Teague's Q.O. (he could sign an offer sheet that we wouldn't match if we want the max of cap room), we have at least 30,403,758 of guaranteed money, which means we would have $28M of cap room.

$20.5M would go to Howard if he gets his Max, this would leave 8M (7.5M and 0.5M since one roster charge would be deleted), then the Room exception.

That is if we operate under the cap. By making sign-&-trades, we can end with a better team, keeping Josh and Teague or trading them to get other players in return, but it's more complicated.

For example, if Howard comes via sign-&-trade, we can't send Josh in sign-&-trade too since Lakers are over the apron, so they would certainly ask for Al, which makes one All-Star leaving the team.

It's also hard to imagine if Howard would prefer to play with Al or Josh if there can't be both.

Do tell us about this Horford tweet. Link?

Kyle Korver mentors Jenkins every practice. Why you think his shot is sweeter now? Everyday they have a 3 point contest.

Congrats to signing him. I hoped Nuggets will keep their promise to make him offseason's priority but that might leave with Ujiri.

But you better let him play 30+ minutes/game again! :) Love his moving around screens.

Different coach, different offensive system. It'll def be worth watching to see how he is used.

I support extending Korver.

For years, we have been needing a player of his caliber, and he wanted to continue to play for us.

I will wait for Ferry's next moves before passing judgement but I was hoping for something along the lines of taking on another teams's expiring contract(s) and picks.

Agreed. It really makes me wish we'd pursued Rudy Gay or Pau Gasol in trade for Josh last year.

Cap space is overrated if there are no worthy Free Agents or if no one wants our money.

I don't quite understand the logic about how this takes us out of the running for Dwight. If anything, I would think this would make us MORE attractive to Dwight. Don't get my wrong... I think we're long shots to get Dwight, but I don't think signing Korver takes us out of the running.

We can still sign Howard but we don't have the money to sign another major FA, which Howard has said he wants. He wants 3. I agree that Korver would be perfect for him. Howard loves kicking out to a 3pt shooter and he would certainly love Korver.

You can still sign another big time free agent for $14 million per.

We had $34.8 million in available cap space before signing Korver. 34.8 - 6 = 28.8. Dwight Howard, alone, will demand the max, around $22 million. 28.8 - 22 = 6.8.

$6.8, after signing Howard, would be all we'd have for a FA. That's not enough for another major FA. Howard has been adamant about wanting a big 3.

Estimated Guaranteed contract at this moment :

12,000,000 - Al Horford
05,225,000 - Louis Williams
01,258,800 - John Jenkins
01,208,400 - Jared Cunningham
00,100,000 - 2013-14 guaranteed part for Jeremy Tyler waived in 2012-13
01,348,200 - 17th pick (1,617,840 if signed for 120%)
01,419,200 - 16th pick (1,703,040 if signed for 120%)
05,393,258 - Kyle Korver (minimum for a first year of a $24M/4yrs contract)
02,450,900 - 5 "incomplete roster charge" : 5 x 490,180

Total : 30,403,758 This leaves nearly $28M

Howard can get 20.5M, this would leave 7.5M + 490,180 (one less roster charge) = 8M

You could sign a guy starting at 8M if you wouldn't want to re-sign Teague.

Yeah...when I saw that post myself I was like....YIKES!!!

If I recall, I wrote this after the debacle of the 2013 playoffs when KK was dominated by P George and Lance Stephenson. Then got benched in favor of Johan Petro.

Dude has been amazing in Bud's system. Both sides of the ball.

Of all the stuff I ever got wrong, this is probably the biggest. (And that is saying something.)

KK has turned me into a fan for sure.

Korver's achieved a career renaissance at an age many players are preparing for retirement.

I hope you know I didn't want to be a dick or something.

If this is your biggest mistake I think it's ok.

At first I am so happy for KK (still remember when 76ers traded his draft rights for cash consideration)
and second- in Kevin Durant's draft class I was soooo sure Acie Law III is future all-star I claimed it everywhere. :D

No Fat Chicks wrote:I cringed a little bit at giving 4 years to a 32 year old, but considering it was looking like he was going to get $21-$22 million for 3 years, I guess I can't complain too much about spending another $2 million for that 4th year. With a lot of shooters getting contracts early in FA, the money seems reasonable for one of the better shooters (if not the best) remaining on the market.

Trading for Korver (LOL at the Bulls giving him up for a TPE) and then re-signing him was one of the most important moves Danny Ferry's made.

Hey. No excuses or caveats. KK proved me wrong & made me a believer and a fan.

Not at all, dude. That's the whole point of a message board. Never understood guys who say things and then get upset if it ever gets brought back up.

Credit goes to Korver for improving his craft, and Coach Bud and D Ferry for recognizing what they wanted to run and KK's importance that process.

I do have concerns how he's going to fair at age 35. But his contract actually decreases with every year, so at worst he is just a nice option off the bench.

Well me, too part of me wanted to preserve him off the bench and groom a new 2 guard.

To be fair, a lot of this thread recognizes the down side of signing a player in his 30's. I think most would agree that just because Korver worked out doesn't mean we should start breaking open the bank and start giving multiple long term deals to any 33 yo wing. Korver worked and that's great, but let's keep in mind that he's probably the exception who proves the rule.
