That's one of the ugliest shot charts I might've ever seen

Lol. That's pathetic.

Dude. NSFW.
Seriously, I have no idea what's wrong with Lance's shot. He's virtually untradeable based on his performance this year, which in a way is probably a good thing. His jumper opened up a lot for him last year. If Mark Price can work the magic he did with MKG, on Lance, Lance will be the player we hoped he'd be, next season. I'm not confident he'll turn it around this year, but I am confident in his talent level, and I think everyone here can agree he's more talented than what he's laid in front of us this season.

Yeah, but at least with MKG, you knew that the mechanics were the problem. With Stephenson, I don't know, but his shooting form doesn't seem to be the problem. His street-ball-style pull-ups definitely hurt his percentages, but a lot of his misses are just outright misses. He'll have a decent form, get his feet set, etc. -- but he just bricks them. Maybe Price can help with that, too. If he can, we should let him work his magic on damn near half the team.

I'm convinced that Lance plays best when given freedom to be creative. Charlotte under Cliff is a very controlled team and that's not something that Lance feels comfortable with. Just a bad fit in that respect for both guys.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I'm fine with keeping him for now but it would be nice to get something for him in the offseason.

He needs more arc and rotation on that bad boy. Ball looks like a straight line going to the rim. He obviously has poor rotation since when he misses it bounces off the rim or backboard like a jet missile.

So we were sold on Lance being a good, high percentage shooter because of his stats from last season?
Looking at these charts shows that if you take away his right hand corner three and finishing in the paint it looks like he was about a 35% shooter last season.
Awesome.

Re: I Blew It - The Lance Stephenson Thread II
I don't think too many, and definitely not me, were sold on Lance Stephenson, but after such a lackluster start to free-agency of irrationally wasting time trying to sign a restricted Gordon Hayward followed by the mediocre signings of Marvin Williams & Brian Roberts there wasn't many options left on the table that could make Charlotte optimistic about their offseason, so the desperation of acquiring Stephenson's high risk-medium/high reward potential began to sank in to give fans something to be excited about with the Hornets rebrand

Re: I Blew It - The Lance Stephenson Thread II
He needs to go, with Kemba and MKG we need a SG that can play off ball and shoot threes, which is the primary reason Devin Booker is #1 on my prospect list right now. (15-16th pick). With our 2 best players being poor shooters we have to get shooting from the other 3 positions (SG,PF and if we're lucky C).

Unfortunately I don't even think we could trade Lance anymore. Even on what appeared to be a bargain deal on short term with a team option in the 3rd year it look like he's a bad contract. Lol

Sadly, Lance's outside shooting is one of the least concerns I have about him as a player.

And all 3 of those 3-19 three pointers came within about 4 minutes of each other in one game. Other than that brief WTF stretch he hasn't hit a single one.

That shot chart is even uglier than I expected. Someone delete this thread just in case one of the GMs Cho is trying to pawn Lance off to reads RealGM. Or replace it with a Klay Thompson chart and everyone act cool.

What an ugly shot chart. It also seems like Kemba has missed more games.

Re: I Blew It - The Lance Stephenson Thread II
I didn't see the game, but Lance appears to be regressing further. I am starting to see why the team was trying so hard to deal him. As others have said, he just doesn't fit here. We need to deal him to Denver and give Afflalo a tryout. I also want to deal Al, but nobody will give us value we need unless they NEED him badly to win now.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Hornets’ Lance Stephenson is the least valuable player in NBA
After 38 games in a Hornets uniform, Stephenson is on the trading block as the league’s least valuable player.
To be named the league’s least valuable player, he must qualify for the points per game leader board, use at least 20 percent of his team’s possessions on offense and have negative value when it comes to helping his team win games.
Stephenson does little to contribute to the few victories Charlotte has. His minus-0.5 win shares is the lowest on the team and a severe setback from his last two years with Indiana.
When he is on the court, the Hornets score 9.5 net points per 100 possessions fewer than when he is on the bench, and the team has a deplorable 44.8 effective field goal percentage when he is in the lineup.
That’s because he doesn’t hit his shots.
According to inpredictable’s win probability added metric, which adjusts a player’s impact on winning based on score, time remaining, etc., Stephenson has the seven lowest WPA among all players (minus-2.65) and the third lowest expected win probability added based on his box score stats (minus-2.05).
There is still plenty of time for any of these guys to pick up their game, but short of an MVP-style run in the second half, it looks like Stephenson will be this year’s poster boy for NBA busts.
