Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 3
Speaking of OKC, any hopes we might have had to steal Mitch McGary flew out the door in their last game - when he scored 19 points (8 of 9 shooting) and grabbed 10 rebounds in 23 minutes. I think he's on his way to becoming another nice piece in OKC's future. For all the Perry Jones fans - I hate to say I told ya so . Since his impressive stretch of a few games early in the season, he's been terrible.

The Spurs gave that game away against the Raptors the second Pop kept Diaw on the bench and he had Belinelli out there. The Raptors just attacked Belinelli at will with James Johnson/Amir Johnson/DeRozan.

How about the Kings beating Phoenix on a shot by Boogie Cousins?

Only seven players in NBA history have averaged at least 23 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, one steal and 1.5 blocks per game for an entire season: Bob Lanier, Bob McAdoo, Kevin Garnett, David Robinson, Charles Barkley, Olajuwon and Abdul-Jabbar. Cousins is on pace to become the eighth—and just the second over the last 20 years.
(TGW, you did say post as many stats as I want.

Who drafts better than OKC? I can't think of any other organization.
I admit that I thought they were nuts drafting Westbrook one pick ahead of Kevin Love. They got it right.
Who else had Serge Ibaka on their radar? They almost always pick well (except for Thabeet). Guys I did like include Roberson and Reggie Jackson. Others were high on McGary. I still think Lamb is a good pick. Perry Jones shows flashes of being very good. The best pick from where OKC selected besides Westbrook is Steven Adams.
As for Mitch McGary, he is going to be better than Perkins and Nick Collison, if he already isn't.
About the only thing that will work against OKC is the salary cap. They chose Ibaka over Harden. They are about to have to let Jackson go. They have talent that other teams will pay for.

I gotta agree with CCJ on this one. Cousins is playing real well. It's not his fault that the rest of the team is lousy and that his team seems to have no direction from management. His turnovers are high, but that happens when teams can double him with impunity.

Cousins camp against bringing in Karl.
Since when did Demarcus Cousins become Tim Duncan? That guy has no right to dictate who the team hires at coach. And Karl sure as hell has accomplished more than Cousins has.
What a frickin' primadonna.

Pop got 1,000 wins and got in his home state of Indiana. Belinelli with the game winning shot. He's 5/10 on game winners since his rookie year in 2007-2008.
DeAndre Jordan with 22 points and 27 rebounds. Wow.
Mavs lost Tyson Chandler and Monta Ellis in that game though. Tyson's their MVP.
Kings aren't trading him, that's for sure. But it looks like Karl is going there, its a matter of when not if.
He definitely doesn't want to run in an up tempo system that Karl will bring.

Not at all true from what I read. Cousins has said nothing negative about Karl. What happened was his 2 agents questioned what in the blue hell Sacramento's doing. First they fired Mike Malone - who appeared to be a great hire as their coach. Then they said Tyrone Corbin will be the coach for the rest of the season. Now, they're cancelling that idea and want to go with Karl. That's 3 times they've changed their plans since the season started. Who wouldn't question what they're doing? And on top of that, George Karl has always been a polarizing figure. None of this is Cousins' fault.

Haters gonna hate....
Here is the truth, which you are likely not interested in:
***Quote from Associated Press (AP) writer John Jackson***
Kings center DeMarcus Cousins also tried to clarify his stance on the team's coaching situation two days after a postgame rant was interpreted as him not being in support of Karl being hired. ''I don't fire coaches or hire them,'' he told ESPN. ''Everyone knows I liked and respected Coach (Michael) Malone. I didn't want (Malone's firing in December) to happen.
''I'm not involved in any coaching decisions right now. I've heard that George Karl is a great coach. If that is the direction that the organization chooses, I'll support it.''
Primadonna?
1. SUPPORTED HIS COACH WHO WAS FIRED. (Liked and respected his coach. But people like TGW have perpetually gone forth with hate based on BS).
2. SAYS HE HAS HEARD KARL IS A GOOD COACH.
3. SAYS HE DOES NOT HIRE OR FIRE COACHES.
4. SAYS HE SUPPORTS HIRING KARL IF THAT IS THE DIRECTION OF THE KINGS.
Demarcus Cousins thoroughly clarified his position. It is clear to me that media and haters choose to lie and defame. John Jackson tipped his hand just by how he worded a very clear refutation of what the media reported.
TGW, Ruzious told you why agents said what they did. The Kings are jerking Cousins around worse than the Wizards did to John Wall in his first two or three years. Sacramento has swapped coaches in and out and the Kings have not added good players around him.
The guy has played at Kentucky and for Team USA. He is a great player who really cares about winning. I think the people who want to dislike him are beyond reasoning.
If Wall had been drafted by the Kings his career would be much worse.

Charles and Shaq should check the standings. Morey has never had a losing record even though he inherited a team which ended up losing their two franchise players (Tmac and Yao) to injury.
There have been a lot of terrible GMs that were former players.

Cousins' agent Dan Fegan OWNS the Wizards
Wall
Nene
Webster
Gooden
Blair
tha'ts 1/3 of the team. Not to mention Fegan being Kevin Martin's agent which has started his rumors to DC or bringing in Al Harrington as a reclamation project last year.
If Cousins did try and force his hand Fegan just might push his move to DC.

There's a reason why Charles & Shaq are behind the camera and not involved with running an NBA team. Those two aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer and I wouldn't trust either with talent evaluation (Barkley was the same guy that thought Lance Stephenson was an all-star last year). The league is obviously about talent... analytics helps you measure the productivity & impact of that talent.

Yeah, somehow I think Morey's probably a better GM than Chuck and Shaq would be. They go by the theory that if someone's succeeding using methods they don't understand - attack and make fun of them. Knocking them down is much easier than putting in the effort to try to understand.

From time to time it's fun to watch those fogies on TNT, but I wouldn't mind if they axed Barkley and Shaquille, or at the very least replaced Shaq with somebody like Chris Webber.

I thought CWeb had great tv potential until I saw him do a game 2 years ago. He kept insisting that OJ Mayo was a special player. Taint.

Re: NBA Games Discussion Thread - Part 3
Yeah, Chuck's time has passed. And Shaq has never been good. Not as bad as Gary Payton was on NBATV, but still not good. I'd like to see them replace both of them, and one of the replacements be an ex-coach just for a different perspective.
