Essentially this deal is simply moving the asset forward. Payne is probably a similar level prospect to whomever they would get with that pick except they don't have to wait 3 years to benefit. 1st round picks get so overrated both here and by actual GM's.
Payne will be 30 by the time the Twolves are competing.
I actually don't think that is hyperbole (although it sounds like it).
He will be 25 by the trade deadline, was a guy that did nothing in college until he was 23-24 playing against kids 5 years younger than him, and has stunk in the dleague this year --

Minnesota has the potential to be one of the most fun teams to watch the next several years, and I think this sucks for them long term and does nothing short term.
