Re: The Official Metamoris/BJJ/Grappling Thread
So this is pretty funny, I guess some ufc gym in Texas had a fake blackbelt instructor. Some purple belt went and leg locked him and it ended up popping the dude's ankle (presumably the dude is really a whitebelt and didn't know how or when to tap? IDK) and there is now a video making the rounds on the forum where the guy who tapped him is basically exposing the guy as a fake to the gym manager as the dude is in the background writhing in pain lol.
IDK if the video is embeddable but its available everywhere by now.

This doesn't mean much (or possibly anything), but I thought it was cool, so here you go...somebody took the champion and top 5 contenders in every ufc weight class and learned their bjj rank...

That shows how boring grappling is by itself in comparison to CM Punk. The UFC should release grappling to sign CM Punk for even more money.
What if it's The Notorious competing in no-gi?

Provided they can get Conor a spot promoting this appearance during the Super Bowl.

I'm planning on joining an MMA gym sometime next month. Mainly for BJJ.
A few of my friends have been doing it for a long time so figure I should start as well.

Awesome dude, let us know how it goes.
I'm currently in the middle of my longest time off the mat since I started. I was rolling and my rib just popped. I feel like this is going to stick with me for awhile.

Thanks, I'll let you guys know how it goes.
I won't lie, I'm a bit intimidated, the gym has a few UFC fighters(though they probably train mornings in private). I just hope I don't break an arm lol.

It sounds so cliche but just tap early and tap often. Don't get into a weird ego war and try to escape something that's sunk in. Also, listen to your body which is exactly what I failed to do.

Are you going to be training in the gi? Or just more nogi/mma?

I'll do nogi to start(I think there are more nogi open mat days than gi days at that place.
If I stick with it then I'll do Gi and nogi.

Re: The Official Metamoris/BJJ/Grappling Thread
UFC withdraws support from European Judo Championships
According to a press release by the UFC on Friday, the organization was withdrawn their support and involvement in the upcoming European Judo Championships. The release states they were forced into such a position by the European Judo Union (EJU), who allegedly threatened to cancel the event if the UFC was still involved.
The EJU has not offered public comment on the matter at this time of this writing. The UFC did not present a reason for the alleged objection to their involvement from the EJU.
"We love to see sport thrive and athletes prosper, which is why the UFC prides itself on supporting all combat sports both mixed and individual disciplines. Our aim was to help Judo reach a new audience, increase promotion, help to sell tickets and create a buzz around the European judo Championships. It is disappointing to see that the European Judo Union cannot see the benefits of collaboration and celebration of all sports," said David Allen, Senior Vice President and General Manager UFC EMEA in the release.

Re: The Official Metamoris/BJJ/Grappling Thread
What a bunch of bs. I only follow judo from a distance, but man there just seems to be so much freakin corruption in that sport that its unbelievable. Banning legitimate throws, forbidding their athletes from competing in other sports, now objecting to the ufc helping bring it to a bigger audience. Its a shame really; judokas, the sport, and the martial art deserve better.

Re: The Official Metamoris/BJJ/Grappling Thread
A rumor that has been around awhile was just confirmed: Chael vs Babalu at metamoris. May 9th.
This will NOT be the main event which is the best part. They must have something really big to not use Chael as the main!

Re: The Official Metamoris/BJJ/Grappling Thread
Its a sad thing when incompetent and corrupt committees and boards do everything they can to ruin a beautiful martial art. Its happened within the last 5 years or so, you can't even utilize lower body to throw anymore.
