We need guards or a wing that can create. This team sucks.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXVIII
One question to think about for the offseason: Would you trade Beal and the Wiz 1st rounder for a top 4 pick in the 2015 draft? This draft has 4 studs (Okafor, Towns, Russell & Mudiay), imo - and we haven't seen that in quite a few drafts. Okafor's not going to get traded, and we wouldn't want Mudiay, but Towns or Russell would be a tremendous get - particularly Towns for the Wiz needs.

No, not really. As much as Beal is annoying me right now he's not really someone I'd be willing to let go yet. Though it's scaring me hearing all this talk about a max.
Right now I just want to clean up all these old heads off the bench. Dre, Rasual, Webster, Gooden, etc... all these guys need to be replaced with guys that actually have a ceiling they haven't reached yet.
And we've gotten to a point where Gortat isn't even seeing fourth quarters now and it's the FIRST year of this extension. We need to make massive changes at the deadline.

Well, if you dump players, you usually have to find other players to replace them - and the replacements usually don't grow on trees. If you're thinking D League, that's not likely going to help this season, because there's basically no practice time. If anything, I expect they'll acquire yet another aging veteran for the bench.

“It’s tough. It’s really tough especially the last year I played pretty much every fourth quarter,” said Gortat, who had nine points and eight rebounds in 25 minutes. “It’s a coaching decision. You guys have to ask him why I’m not playing.”
wonder if Gortat is trying to force himself out - probably reading to much into it, but this sounds like a very frustrated basketball player.

Enes Kanter is available. I think he would help a ton offensively....although he's underwhelming defensively. He's also up for an extension, and I have no idea what he'd demand on the open market. Maybe we can move Porter and Webster for him.

There's a stat on the main board about how were 2 and 8 against top four east teams. I didn't realize that things were quite that bad.
At this rate Durant would be an idiot to come here. Our veteran bench is aging out and we have no farm system in place with which to replace them with.
Dark times ahead.

Big decision to make...
Should the Wizards just ride it out knowing they are building around a younger core of Wall, Beal, Otto and maybe Kevin and just take their lumps while leaving minutes open for Otto to develop ?
Webster has been getting his share of CD-DNP so far. Not sure what his missed game number is now but its nothing they couldn't rack up next year when they have another summer to build the team out more. And with every DNP it makes trading him in the offseason easier if they want. I trust that he isn't dead weight this year and that any game now he will start hitting 3s again and they can use him. And you live and die with Beal developing. In that scenario, you just add whoever you can cheap. Prigioni, Nate, Goudlock, Seth, Khem. Maybe you can get a Larkin. Mostly, you just tweak and live and die with players like Beal and Otto learning.
or
You go for a Afflalo and you have to give up value for him which which is a 18-20th first. That gets harder to evaluate because you don't know the 2ndary moves. You also expect you get him for at least next year as he has a PO for $7,750,000 he most likely signs. Then maybe he stay on longer.
Ray Allen. I doubt he comes here. He has to many better options.
Two more days before he deadline ? Going to be interesting. I expect a lot of complaining either way.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXVIII
The 2011 draft is the reason the team is in this situation.
You basically traded the #6, a bust, for a useful backup PG who's 38.
You didn't get anything from Singleton.
Mack is a decent backup PG in ATL.
Trading picks for a rental of Afflalo doesn't move the needle. It weakens the team in the long term.
Draft picks are important, you need to draft guys who are on the cheap for 4 years so you can have the flexibility. You can't be paying all these veterans all the time and having an older team. You need vets but you need kids who haven't reached their potential. We only have 3 guys on the roster we can save that for. That's it.

Re: Official Trade Thread - Part XXVIII
Agreed. Afflalo isn't worth a first right now. And I'm not trading any young pieces for pending free agents.
I'd actually consider giving up a first for IT because he's young enough and would be under control for 4 years, so he's basically a draft pick.
But one piece really isn't enough.
If we could add Thomas AND a guy like Jordan Hill we'd be right there with the best in the east, but I don't see how we get it done without moving both a first and Hump.

Not much room for growth when the team is this old. Too many players on the roster have very little trade value.
Butler, Blair, Temple, Seraphin, Miller, and Webster are not going to attract attention from teams without adding picks or Porter.

Just took another look at that draft and I forgot just how bad it was for this team. 3 swings and misses in a draft with a lot of decent players and two very good ones.
Irving, Kanter, Jonas Valanciunus were gone but EG had at least one chance to pick any of Kawhi, Biyombo, Morris twins, Vucevic, Klay, Shumpert, TObias Harris, Faried, Motiejunas, Cory Joseph, Jimmy Butler, Mirotic, etc. Not a lot of stars but lots of useful players in that draft.

And we had two picks in the top 20. Didn't even hit on one.
And its not being unlucky, its being stupid which this GM is.

Looking back, we could have had both Klay Thompson and Kenneth Faried.
How sick would our squad be right now...
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

I'd do a Nicholson for Seraphin trade - in a low risk/reasonable reward kind of trade. Nicholson has free-falled the last season and a half - after a solid rookie year. He appeared to be a good offensive PF with a variety of ways to score effectively.

It looks like the Nuggets are the Wizards' favorite backup PG bargain bin:

Kanter would be good... Unfortunately, we haven nothing we can part with to make the trade happen. Anything worthy in the trade that we give up will make us weak somewhere else. I suppose we can trade a few picks?

Just waiting for Ernie to trade next-years 1st & 2nd round picks for Nelson while cleaning-up his Webster signing.
