UFC Fight Night 66 (5/16): Faber vs. Edgar (Manila, PH)

Nice fight.

Kinda weird that it's just thrown on a fight night, since it's kind of a dream matchup.

I wouldn't expect much else from this card except for a Mark Munoz appearance.

I think Faber is done (being elite anyway, he still beats the vast majority in his weight class). Edgar should take this with ease.

Like it, but I think I'd rather have this as a 135 for an Edgar title shot.

The other bouts will mostly feature talent from the Asia & Pacific Islands region, including veterans of The Ultimate Fighter: China reality series.

Tae Hyun Bang (17-8) of South Korea will face Jon Tuck (8-2) of Guam at lightweight. Tuck is 2-2 in the UFC while Bang is 1-1.

Li Jingliang (9-3) of China, who is 1-1 in the UFC, will face New Yorker Roger Zapata (4-1) at welter. Zapata is making his UFC debut.

Zhang Lipeng (9-8-1), the inaugural winner of The Ultimate Fighter China, will fight Canada’s Kajan Johnson (19-11-1), also at welter. Lipeng lost his last bout, against Chris Wade last month, to drop his official UFC record to 1-1. Johnson is making his promotional debut.

Finally, California’s Nolan Ticman (4-2) will face China’s Yao Zhikui (1-2) at flyweight. Zhikui had competed at featherweight for TUF: China, where he won a knockout in his first fight, but lost a decision and was eliminated. He then lost a controversial decision at the TUF:China finale last March. Ticman is also seeking his first UFC win.

Flyweight Roldan Sancha-an, the first Filipino fighter to compete for the UFC, is also expected to compete. The Baguio City native lost a close decision in his debut.

I don't think there's going to be too many established fighters aside from that main...

Munoz was just added to this card. Lol who would have thought like a week ago that Kos and Munoz would be the first two fighters signed to fight again after that last event? Those dudes are the guys everyone hopes would hang up the gloves.

Maybe we can get Chuck back for this big NY show everyone is talking about?

I always kind of figured Munoz would be on this card, but yeah, after that last fight, maybe not such a great idea.

Has Munoz even landed a strike in his last 3 fights? He's been finished very early in the first round of each of them.

I'm intersted in Mousasi/Philippou(hopefully neither gets injured in training) fight and Neil Magny's fight.

Both are great fights. Lim is like a Lhw on fight night should be interesting. Magny is a pretty good fighter but he hasnt fought many good guys

MMA Junkie says Fox Sports 1, Fight Pass, which I assume means FS1 for the main card, and FP for the prelims, but there's not yet any indication of which fights will be where.

Anyway, updated card:

Frankie Edgar vs. Urijah Faber
Gegard Mousasi vs. Costas Philippou
Luke Barnatt vs. Mark Munoz
Hyun Gyu Lim vs. Neil Magny
Yui Chul Nam vs. Phillipe Nover
Tae Hyun Bang vs. Jon Tuck
Mark Eddiva vs. opponent TBA
Kajan Johnson vs. Lipeng Zhang
Ning Guangyou vs. Royston Wee
Nolan Ticman vs. Zhuikui Yao
Li Jingliang vs. Roger Zapata
Jon Delos Reyes vs. Roldan Sangcha-an

Neil Magny has the ability to win fight after fight and never move up the ladder to bigger fights. Insane.

If he wins this weekend, he'll be on a 7 fight win streak, at which point I'd like to see him fight someone like Ellenberger or Story.

Anyone knew Jon Tuck has already had 4 UFC fights?
