Yeah he is bigger but he can play PF. I don't think he is exclusively a center though he could be an maybe in a year or two we look to trade one of them. That remains to be seen but I believe Towns has the ability to be true rim protector whereas Porzingis will just be a shot blocking PF. As I have said the two aren't the same as any PF,especially these days has to chase around quicker and more mobile PFs who can even shoot the three. But I also think that Towns has enough range on his shot and just enough athletic ability to defend the 4 as well. As I said I wouldn't be disappointed with Porzingis but I like Towns just a bit more. yeah they probably will get bigger but not sure by how much and I think Porzingis is purely a PF whereas I think Towns could possibly be ideal at either spot. We shall see but I would be happy with either.
I don't think Towns is exclusively a Center either. But I think at PF, he has some drawbacks that Porzingis doesn't. On defense, it all stems from the quickness, athleticism and length that Porzingis bests him at. It allows him to close faster making him a better rim protector from all sides. Those same traits help him keep up with quick/mobile PFs who like to stretch the floor or drive. On offense, his range is more advanced than Towns. Towns shoots 0.3 3PA per game making only 0.1 on a .250 clilp. Those aren't good indicators especially since the college 3pt line is closer than the NBA 3pt line.
I like Towns, but if I'm being honest with myself, I'm not seeing him develop the skills of a stretch 4 and I think the make up of our team requires that right now. We have guards that love to drive and not enough shooters on the floor. I love Towns down low though.
Porzingis is skinny and needs to pack on weight, but it's not really as big of a hindrance in basketball. Durant proved that as he's one of the best defending wings in the league. Lebron and Melo went on a skinny diet. Kendrick Perkins the same. The best defending bigs right now are Gobert and Whiteside. Not exactly heavyweights.
Check this link out. It's pretty cool.
