As many of you already know, Frank Gore and the San Francisco 49ers are currently negotiating a new contract. The popular running back reportedly wants to remain a lead back on a contending team. Management likes Gore, but he is getting older and has a lot of mileage on him. The team also has Carlos Hyde waiting in the wings, and he showed sparks of greatness from time to time last season.

Re: How much is Frank Gore worth?
It's hard to say really. First, it depends on what team you're referring to, as his value to us will be different to his value to other teams, depending on who else they have at the position. Secondly, it depends on what you value... like he's still producing at a high level on the field and is a great locker-room presence, but is getting old too. So if your biggest concern is getting a guy who can produce for a year or two and wont screw up your team chemistry, then Gore is going to be worth more to you than if you're re-building a team for the long-term with youth.

Nort sure his worth. He can be the " lead back " but it still needs to be more of a committee approach. Gore can't be " the guy " anymore. He will simply wear down during the latter part of the season. Hi salary needs to reflect a reduced role

One-year deal worth $3.5-4 million seems like it would be in the ballpark. Maybe make some of that incentives tied to team performance (playoffs).

I don't think that gets it done. $3 million is a possibility given his age. $2 million is low for a guy coming off 1,000+, even if he is 30+.

Re: How much is Frank Gore worth?
I was curious as to how much of running backs declining production is due to age and how much of it is due to use. Obviously one is related to the other. But I'd like to see a comparison, which can't be done, of a coach who ignores his running backs age and just runs him as if he has aged. Have that compare to the person who thinks that that running back is aging and limits his use. I'm talking about production from efficiency to total yards to first downs, etc.

If he is motivated to get another thousand yards this upcoming season, you would think an insentive based contract would get a deal done...

Re: How much is Frank Gore worth?
If Gore wasn't Gore, I could see a team giving him a low ball offer due to his age and the team's circumstance (ie: probably not a Super Bowl contender; more pressing needs elsewhere) , even if he just came off a 1,000 yard season, but I see Gore getting a Steven Jackson-like offer (Jackson's Atlanta deal is a backloaded 12 mil over 3 years with 4 mil guaranteed) except with a bit less guaranteed and some performance incentives.
Should the team do it, though? My heart says yes, but my mind says no. Maybe if Tomsula could get the entire o-line to stop holding on, what seems like, every freakin play in which Gore goes for more than 12 yards.

Re: How much is Frank Gore worth?
Frank does continue to amaze me, I am surprised he still performs at this level. That said I think he is delusional about his ability to cheat father time. Niner management better not be. My belief is that a Bill Walsh would let him go and look to the future. Too much of risk of father time taking a bite on him big time, like with Vernon (maybe) last season.

Re: How much is Frank Gore worth?
Emotionally, $6.5 MM. I think he's a 1000 yards from the HOF.
Realistically, he's a $3.0-4.0 MM back for us and someone like Indy might pay $5.5-$6.0MM
Teams I worry about.....
Indy
NE
Baltimore
Seattle (if Lynch walks)
Atlanta
And a really really dark horse....Miami.

His agent would try to steer him away from signing a deal like that. It would be quite risky, especially if the Niners opt to give more carries to Hyde next year.
