Kanter isn't a rental and the 1st round pick is low.
You either get Kanter for an extra cheap year at $7 million next year or he forces himself into RFA and you can sign him to a cheap deal before the 2016 boom or S&T.
we don't know the deal
why give up any assets at all for a guy you can get in the offseason?
I don't see anywhere Kanter gets under 10m
Again, $10 million/year is a steal once the 2016 salary cap rolls around. I can't fully argue for his fit on the team, but if you're talking about a player of his caliber on the open market, the cap is going to increase by 50% and his contract is then a deal.
"a guy you can get in the offseason" is not entirely true. He could take the QO.
but he won't, Kanter has publicly said he wants out of Utah and has never wanted to play there
I'm not committing long term to guys that are not winning players, a guy that can't/won't pass and can't play defense isn't a winning player and never will be. This guy isn't going to seamlessly fit into a role on this team. How is going to help us win this season? Realistically what is the upside to trading for this guy this season? It makes no sense to me, we're going to commit 8 figures to a guy who has done nothing but shown he is a bad player in this league thus far, FML. Rather bring back Gooden, at least he can pass.
