Lakers coaches play trade deadline prank on Jordan Hill
Brett Pollakoff | Feb 18, 2015, 10:30 PM EST

The trade deadline is a stressful time for players who know that their name will come up repeatedly in talks of deals with other teams, and some use that very real situation to have a laugh at those guys’ expense.

The Lakers coaching staff was the latest to have some fun with it, pulling an old prank on Jordan Hill that had him thinking he was on his way out.

From Bill Oram of The Orange County Register:

The Lakers do not play again until Friday against Brooklyn. The Lakers have a handful of players who could be attractive to suitors, starting with forward Jordan Hill. Hill’s contract carries a team option for next season, so he could be a cheap rental for a team looking to add frontcourt depth before the playoffs.

Hill was the victim of an age-old prank Wednesday when coaches told him Kupchak wanted to see him.

“He just started walking,” Scott said, “(and was) like ‘What’s wrong? What’s up?’ Then we just started laughing.”

That’s cold, man.

But in the midst of such a disastrous Lakers season, those living through it daily can hardly be blamed for trying to inject some levity into the situation.

yeah i think this means hill is staying. hopefully we decline his team option and resign him for less. he will be solid off the bench in the future.

Hill can give a very solid 20 minutes of explosive basketball. After that, he's pretty much spent.

I hope this is a prank on Lakers fans. Need to trade this dude for anything. Don't want the FO to have any temptations by picking up his option if he stays past the deadline.

I bet hill doesn't even know that he has a no trade clause.

Been hitting the bottle during the break next to Lawson

But yeah I'm not buying its him they are trying to flip. I think its Lin and what really **** sucks about Lin more than his play is his deal. His cap figure is good but the fact is the team getting him is still going to have to fork out like 5-6mil which is an ugh because he's really being paid 15. But yeah IMO its Lin, Ed, Wes, Kelly types being shopped and the team rather talk to Hill about staying on at a longer but cheaper rate. They like him, and honestly this Dragic stuff is all because he, Nash, and Dragic share an agent

Its not mutually exclusive. Laker fans probably would want Hill but for a smaller salary cap hit.

How does that make you better than the Lin, Gallo, and Wil fans who root for them over NY?
