If Gores wants to spend the money, the Pistons can sign a near a max player next summer while Monroe & Jackson are on their cap holds, then resign both Jackson & Monroe.
.
The problem(as Houston learned last year) is that the new shorter window on RFA's makes that a little bit tougher. If a team comes out aggressive on Jackson and gets him to sign an offer right away then there may not be time to do that.
Im assuming though that Detroit must have gotten some indication from Jackson's camp about retaining him and if they can work out a deal ahead of time then they can take advantage of his low cap hold.
Considering how little they gave up the Pistons can try him out and even just let him walk if the numbers get too crazy. Very low risk move for them.
