How fast we forget how Dragic was liked and now people will despise him more then they did with Nash. It's not Dragic's fault we put a dozen of pgs around him and made him a guard. He's not Nash he doesn;t need to be loyal till he reaches 37 years old. Its his life and he knew that Suns didnt care about him and would of lowballed him in a bad contract considering they already gave IT&Bledsoe most of the money. I will still root for Miami and Dragic and hope they do well. No hard feelings from this fan.

Gambo said his source in the FO said they were gonna max him.

Could just be spin now that he's gone though.

my guess when i heard about the mtg was that they told dragic's agent they would offer more than anyone else in the offseason. and then asked if that (ie, more than anyone else) would be enough.

up to and including the max.

otherwise i dunno what that mtg would be about really

The thought of paying Dragic over 20 million a year makes me happy all this **** went down. We would never become contenders with him making that much.

He is a willing passer however he does have a tendency to put his head down on drives and not really find the open man as well as Bledsoe does.
I'd say he is more or less a combo guard who passes well yet is not an elite passer like Nash or CP3 but he has never been given reigns to an elite team yet so I imagine his assist numbers will rise in Miami.

Im glad he kicked Sarver/McDuh/Babbler (the real 3 headed Monster) in the nuts before he left. You guys act like it was some kind of secret he revealed at his presser. Do you have any doubt his agent was out soliciting interest weeks before this ? Those in the know, knew. The truth hurts to hear sometimes. But I guess y'all are OK with the way our FO has conducted themselves as of late????

Bravo Goran. Good luck. You made a very wise decision to go play for Riley and Arison. Wish we could trade for them.

I'm with Frank on this one. Goran got a raw deal. Sure his actions in the last 48hrs were not ideal but I think the Suns screwed him more than he screwed the Suns.

I'm still struggling to understand how it is that this season our coaches and FO could completely marginalise a player who last season was all-NBA 3rd team (and therefore considered one of the top 6 guards in the league), should have been an all-star, won MIP AND had a career year?
WHO DOES THAT?? WHAT OTHER TEAM WOULD "REWARD" THEIR BEST PLAYER IN THIS WAY????
Oh that's right, the same team that somehow could never find a quality backup for Nash until the final season of SSOL, the same team who hired the wrong coach and wasted pretty much an entire season of SSOL etc etc. Anyway that's a conversation for a different thread...I'm just so bitter about Goran leaving...and who could blame him? After proving his worth last season, why shouldn't he feel annoyed that this season he was reduced to standing at the 3pt line waiting for someone to pass to him?

He is a fantastic player and should still be in a Suns uniform. I can't believe all the hate being thrown at him by so many people on this forum. Has everyone just forgotten how much he brought to this team last season? What about his amazing transformation from "Tragic" to Nash's best backup ever in the the magical 09-10 season?

This totally sucks.

Suns gave him a chance by drafting him when really no other team was interested in him, yeah we traded him but he was playing like hot garbage and Houston didn't exactly hand him the reigns to the team either when he arrived in Houston.
Fact is the Suns have helped Dragic more than hurt and he's repayed them by sabotaging them by stating he will only resign with NY,Mia and LA.
If it weren't for the Suns Goran might not have even had a shot at landing in the NBA.

I appreciate Goran for the '13-14 season and that memorable performance against the Spurs in 2010. What a game he had!
I ddin't like the way he chose to part with the franchise. Not classy at all, Goran. But all the best in Miami.

The second paragraph of this post is all that needs to be said for all the guys blasting him

He was getting better every year.... Had an ALL-NBA year and nearly led a team full of overachievers to the playoffs for half the year (and when he played with Bled they looked awesome) and he got rewarded by an incompetent GM signing ANOTHER starting quality PG, which severely hindered his game. All in a contract year.

But yeah let's blame the guy who "never led the suns to the playoffs." As if that wasn't what they could and probably would of done had it just been Dragic and Bledsoe like last year..........

Your GM/management is terrible. Sorry I love watching the Suns and will continue to root for them, but this team could of built on all that momentum from last year and tried to make a deep play off run while adding some FRONT court depth to help. Instead McD tried to fix what isn't broken and now you not only traded Dragic, but also Thomas, and a potential top 5 pick, one of your only 2 centers, a young PG you drafted for Brandon Knight. We'll see if the Suns can hold on to the 8th spot, it'll be interesting

I'm gonna miss Dragic. But we had to trade em, I understand. We got pretty good value for him too. Way better of a package than what the Celtics got for Rondo, that's for sure.

Wow

Why in the world does this guy deserve an appreciation thread?

If he didn't pull the crap he did this week we might still have the Laker's pick. Milwaukee might have taken him on trade for Knight without having to give that pick up. His mouth limited our options dramatically. On the way out the door he says how the great the Phoenix Suns fans are. Thanks for nothing.

He sulked all year and really never gave the 3 guard a chance. For the most part he was the worst part of the three guard offene. If not for lay ups on Bledsoe and others steals he might not have averaged double digits. IMO, he is just not that special.

We will see if the Heat will allow him to play for his national team, this off season.

Certainly if the Heat do not do well it will not be his fault. It will be because of the other players on the roster or injuries. If that does happen maybe Marion Chalmers will let him look at his 2 championship rings.

Yeah, an ALL-NBA guard is nothing special.

Goran Dragic Appreciation Thread

Post#57 » by charley barkles » Fri Feb 20, 2015 7:19 pm

Goran always felt like a true Suns player... Probably the most of anyone on this team. Sad to see it end like this. Obviously, recently he checked out, but before that he always gave 100% and even at the cost of beating up his body. He never got the respect from refs here that he deserved...

Goran didn't get a raw deal. We were going to max him and offered to trade Thomas. He wanted Bledsoe gone too and we said no, rightfully.

Goran's statements and wish list show what really matters to him. First, he wants a max. Second, he wants to have the ball in his hands as much as possible. Third, he wants a big market. Fourth, he wants his brother to play. Somewhere beyond there is where team success falls. To request a trade to NYK and LAL is all that needs to be said. Those teams are half a decade, at the earliest, away from contending, and LAL is that far from even making the playoffs because of how good the west is.

Phoenix traded for a PG in Bledsoe and put him and Goran in a system that allowed the team to have a monster season and helped propel Goran to his best year ever. He followed that up by saying he's been betrayed for 2 years (Ennis and Thomas haven't been here that long--Bledsoe has).

Goran never got a raw deal. Phoenix gave him an awesome platform to become the player he is today, from learning from Nash and getting playoff experience early to being featured in a system that allows him, but more importantly the team, to succeed. McDonough is right. This isn't singles tennis. If you would rather play for big markets and with your brother who isn't good enough to crack the rotation on a Suns team at a position of need, rather than being the 2nd or 3rd wheel on a team while making the same salary (if Suns maxing him was true) that is younger and already better, then you aren't a guy I want on any team I'm a fan of. It's Goran's right to be unhappy and want a bigger role. It's our right to question him when that new role has shown to result in more team success and we were willing to pay him all the same.

I'm honestly starting to lose my love for the Suns. Maybe it's because I became a fan during Nash's tenure here and I feel kind of lost in the shuffle. I have zero faith in our FO or Bledsoe/Knight....what a horrible trade. Dragic was a fantastic player, and we put him with three PG's who need the ball to be effective. It's madness.

Goodbye, Dragon. Tear **** up in the EC and win a damn 'chip.
