SVG Appreciation Thread

Post#1 » by Blkbrd671 » Fri Feb 20, 2015 12:54 pm

Jennings' injury was a major blow, and the Pistons have to question whether he'll regain his trademark quickness. This serves as a hedge, an acknowledgement about the uncertainty of Jennings, who has a long recovery ahead. With Andre Drummond and Jackson, the Pistons have two young talents that Monroe might find enticing, and if he doesn't and opts to leave, they'll have salary-cap space to maneuver.

Honestly i love the fact that he recognizes Jennings potentially is no longer a long term solution at the 1, and that he brought in a piece that not only will replace him but also attract others here. and give us full leverage in the offseason. I think when we look back , this is going to be the best trade this season not only for the talent but just strategically. After years of Dumars, its so refreashing to have a GM who makes a fan(me) feel like he understands.

Van Gundy and general manager Jeff Bower weren't interested in a lateral move, and certainly weren't going to mortgage the future. They didn't trade a first-round pick and they added Prince's expiring contract, the type of deals Van Gundy has to make, and isn't afraid to do. In less than a year, he has almost completely turned over the roster, with only four holdovers remaining — Drummond, Monroe, Jennings and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.This is another sign the organization has a plan, which began with the December release of Josh Smith.

How much cap room has SVG created since he's been here?

i am pretty sure there's a thread on here that has that list of players as the only ones we'd all want to keep. its like he here's us.

The Pistons also acquired old friend Tayshaun Prince from the Celtics, but this wasn't a nostalgic glance at the past. Prince has an expiring contract, so he'll get a 28-game curtain call with his former team, which then gets salary-cap space. With the moves, Van Gundy didn't damage the Pistons playoff hopes and took a bold shot at enhancing their future, a smart gambit.

SVG's cherry on top. If quincy miller turns out to be anything, i am going to fly to Detroit and give that motha f* a hug.

I feel like he deserves some appreciation

I agree and have been the biggest SVG supporter on RealGM even since his days in Miami. About almost a decade now.

I wanted Stan...and I love what he's done since being hired.

Time will tell but so far you've got to admit he's done a damn good job considering what he was handed

The irony being that I have lived in Miami, Orlando and Detroit in my life while Stan has coached all 3 has been a great experience for me. When I heard my favorite coach all time was going to coach my favorite team, I was stoked.

Being I worked about 2 miles from where he lives in Florida at the time he was hired by the Pistons, I couldn't believe he would even leave Florida for Detroit. He was very active in the local community.

theres is absolutely no doubt he is a great coach and deserves insurmountable credit to miami heats success before pat Riley stole it from him. Not to mention cry baby dwight forcing svg to be fired when he was able to craft another championship team. The guys been shafted and hes truly one of the greats. Dont worry stan. Your appreciated here.

If you look at those Magic rosters that Stan had then learn that he had the 3rd best record in the NBA over a 5 year run with Finals and Semi-Finals appearances, people would be amazed. They had a top defense with Jameer, Ryan Anderson, Reddick, Turkoglue amongst many others starting games who were all horrible individual defenders. Stan just devises great defensive schemes for team defense and really trusts his PG's.

Also, when he took over miami they were a 25 win team.and turned them into a 42 win team that almost upset indiana in the playoffs. I know lebron was worried when Jennings was going off. We were pretty sick for a minute. Oh well, lets see what miracle svh can work with 28 games or so. Hopefully, playoffs!

I absolutely love these moves. None of the four players we gave up were going to be staples of this team moving forward. We gained financial assets in Jackson and Prince that help us long term, whether the players themselves fit or not. If they do, especially Jackson, even better. Anyone who finds fault in these moves is not looking at the big picture.

A lot of people came down hard on SVG being the president, and claimed he would be terrible and would just chase 'win now' trades and free agents. He's done anything but that and is aggressively setting up Detroit for a brighter future with cap flexibility and shrewd trades that upgraded our talent.

Can we add to this SVG is starting Dinwiddie tonight because he feels he deserves it after some great practices. What a nice couple days for us...I haven't been this pleased a long time.

I remember Otis smith saying about SVG after he was hired here that SVG is one of the smartest guys you'll meet, and whether it's him or bower they have made some incredible moves in just this short year.

I'm excited for this offseason. I have this feeling that even if I'm skeptical of any trades/signings/draft picks they make SVG will make it all work.

it's a great feeling.

I think SVG picked a GM that he felt comfortable working with.. I also think SVG's coach side of his brain (wanting to improve any chance they got) helped him.. Van Gundy knows more than anyone what the team lacks on the floor being the coach.. He went out and got Jackson, Prince (look at his numbers this year), and may have a gem in Miller. He did all this without mortgaging the future.. It makes you wonder if the Joe Johnson rumors were even true.. Obviously if they wanted a 1st, we weren't willing to give it up or the trade would have happened.. Maybe he was trying to trade Brandon already knowing that he had a trade for Jackson lined up.. I read somewhere that OKC might have been giving Billy King the finger for not working with them weeks ago on a trade.. I know Brooklyn's front office was upset OKC didn't leave them with enough time to strike a deal elsewhere.. Our trade with OKC happened within ten minutes it was mentioned as a possibility right near the end of the clock.. Almost like it was the deal all along..

If true, kudos to OKC for making Billy King look like a big turd.. Worst GM of all-time.

Don't forget either, the main piece in the trade with OKC was DJ Augustine.. The guy SVG picked up in his first year spending money on FA's.. If he would have gave him a 6 mil a year deal (like he's worth).. We never get a crack at Reggie Jackson.. A lot to like here.

What is exciting for me is that this is the first year. This team cut a cancer, got steal in Tolliver and flipped FA signing Augustin to Jackson. Meeks look average but it's still somewhat early for him considering injury. All moves look good. As a team we're way better on the court, Monroe and Jennings are individually better.
