There are a lot of clueless and short sighted posters talking about Hinkie and the Sixers. I question a lot of people's basketball IQ.

Philly fans, what do you think of Hinkies drafting and how many years without having real postseason asperations are you willing to endure to let Hinkie keep doing his thing?
I think his drafting has been tremendous. Embiid and Noel were excellent picks assuming Embiid's health. Elf (not sure if he had any intention to keep him but still) seems solid so far and Saric was great value and is looked upon favorably by most (voted best player outside the NBA by the GM poll). MCW was far better than one could ever expect with the 11th pick in a weak draft. Also, he was flipped for absurd value. In the 2nd round he got KJ and Grant who both have been straight up steals.
As far as how long we wait, the clock starts ticking when Embiid steps foot on an NBA court.

I belive their is a legit argument that Noel is (so far) is the 5th best Center in his class. Joel Embid weighs 300 pounds. Saric isn't coming over next year and the two most proven players Hinkie has drafted were both traded (one for tremendous value and the other for a 2nd)

I can see a legit argument for len or gobert over noel though I'd strongly disagree but who else? Embiid doesn't weigh 300 pounds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROc8jk53ANM That was yesterday.

Embiid isn't 300 pounds that was false information. He looks to be incredible shape right now actually.
as for Noel...I'm not sure who you are talking about. Len and Gobert are they only guys you can be talking about. Unless you are counting him as apart of this year for in which Nurkic probably outshines him. Who are the 4 guys in his class that rank higher than him (IYO of course)
But regardless, the point is that Hinkie hasn't drafted a complete bust yet. On the same token we aren't sure if he drafted any stars either but his drafting has been good so far...regardless of his trigger happy nature of trading dudes

fair enough. I can see the argument for those guys. Especially with Noel's remedial ass offensive game ATM. He is some extra touch away from not being a net negative there lol...I hope he gets that.

Re: What are the Sixers doing?
I'd argue against each one of those guys considering age and that Noel missed a year but it's not so absurd that I feel the need to actually argue someone's opinion. That being said I still think its safe to say the guy can draft.

Doctor MJ wrote:I think it's helpful to look at the issues the Pelicans have right now to understand the 76ers - not really coincidences they had the pivotal trade together.
NO wanted a quick rebuild so they brought in a bunch of guys they thought would fit with Davis, which also meant ditching Robin Lopez who they thought wouldn't.
Turns out Davis is a different beast than predicted and so none of those moves helped and together they make it tougher for NO to react
The moral of the story would seem to be to not get ahead of yourself. Until you see what the foundation you want to build around really looks like, avoid establishing things that may prove a poor fit.
While it's true you can't delay forever, MCW was never seriously seen as the team's foundation. Noel and Joel were. Hence moving the premature primacy of MCW is totally in line with what they've been doing and not a reason to think they are punting indefinitely

The difficulty is it isn't a contrast between the NOLA strategy and the Philly one. The Pelicans approach was flawed in design and execution; the Philly one is sound in design but is starting to look flawed in execution.
Nola both should have done a proper OKC style teardown and pursued more complementary players to Davis. Philly is right to accumulate assets and patiently rebuild, but are now running the risk of alientating potential draft picks/agents/players because they may be pushing too aggressively on a data-driven rebuild.
There is a human factor to the game, both in terms of relationships and making your team an attractive and supportive place to play. A successful organisation has never taken such an asset oriented, data driven approach (not even Houston) and so people are rightly sceptical. Even when they decide to start competing, it is going to be totally unique organization. We can expect that Hinkie will always shuffle through assets as he has done so far. It isnt just about a different style of rebuild but a radically different (for the NBA anyway) style of management.

Re: What are the Sixers doing?
Hinkie's problem is his image: he acts like a visionary, but he presents himself like some office assistant.
Here's my advice to you Hinkie, if you are reading this (which of course he is):
You need to grow a really long beard, and always use a staff when you walk. Wear torn clothes and stop bathing. Stop coming in to the office, and instead live in a cave. Only come out every month or do give press conferences where you mumble wise sayings from various religious texts. For instance, when asked about the Sixers tanking, quote the Dao De Jing: "Those know do not speak. Those who speak do not know." Adopt a pet bat. Promote squirrels and rabbits to key positions in the front office. Occasionally come to games just to shout incoherent comments about how you have seen the future and that in that future the Sixers fans will bear witness to the coming of the greatest dynasty in the history of modern sports. When you have to urinate do not use the bathroom -- always do so in public. Adopt numerous wives. Run for Governor of Pennsylvania.
Do this and you will be universally respected. Or arrested. Or both.
If you have any other advice, feel free to ask me, or anyone else at Real GM.

76ers robbed the Suns of the LAL pick, how is this a bad thing for Philly?

Re: What are the Sixers doing?
The Sixers seem to be approaching the rebuild differently. Some teams look to amass talent. Hinkie wants talent but also want players that fit his long term vision. I can respect that.

Smirkin Dirk wrote:c3neely wrote:We traded KJ Mcdaniels based off of his 1 year contract, the money he was going to demand next year, and that we werent going to pay him that money based off of his skill set. Its pretty simple if u really think about it...get a second round pick, and keep it movin
By trading MCW, we not only got a lottery pick back in return, but we solidified are tank this year, and our ability to draft a top 3 pick this draft and get a legitimate star on the team (Okafor, Towns, Russel)
I dont really understand what people "dont understand" about this concept. The Sixers didnt trade away anybody that they saw as long term staples of a contending team. Deal with it. Hail Hinkie
So after 3 years of tanking you're left with what?
2 big guys who've suffered major injuries. One hasnt played, the other might top out at Marcus Camby. You've got someone in Europe, who hasnt' stepped on court yet. You've got 8 million 2nd round picks; if any of them become good they will be traded away for more picks. Asset management, and all that.
What's funny is this Hinkie snake oil salesman has 76s fans sucked in. When he keeps talking about the future, you never have to do anything in the present.
So after 2-3 years of roster deals, you still havent got a star, nothing close to it. Noel has shown he may be a rotation player, Embiid hasnt played a minute, a dude in Europe who will not want to come to that steaming turd heap you call an organisation.
But you can keep getting excited about more picks. And in 2 years when they arent Durant, trade them for even more picks. And then trade them. Fools, all of you.
Meanwhile Ill watch my team play playoffs for the 14th time in 15 years.
U need to build around stars...Its only way to win in the league, to attract FA's, ect. ect. We may have one with Embiid. U say "he hasnt played a meaningful minute" no **** ****...he had surgery. He has a high prob to be a star player depending on health. We solidified a top 3 pick, so we have the chance to potentially get number 2 star. Then we can start building. The worst thing we can do is move forward without the right pieces, and be stuck right where we were. Hes trying to build a contending team. How many teams are winning in this league without atleast 2 high talent players to build around?

It doesn't really matter whether the Sixers succeed or not. Hinkie's approach is still at least an interesting experiment. People should try to do ambitious things in life. Hinkie is reaching for the stars. I respect that. He doesn't need to succeed to earn my respect.

The 76ers should go after Jeremy Lin in the off-season. I remember they were among the teams looking to trade for him in the off-season.
