Noah or Taj?
I love both guys, but I think one is dealt this summer. We don't need 4 starting quality bigs, and I think Mirotic will be starting quality next year. Gasol is staying, on that deal. So, who would you deal? Who has more value? What type of return are we looking for?

Re: Noah or Taj?
I would deal Gibson and would have dealt him and his deal already when he was playing better. People forget he's older for his draft class. He'll be 30 when next season begins.
He also doesn't give you more than Noah. I like his effort, but he's expendable (technically so is everyone on the Bulls roster). Noah just does more and brings more to the table and the locker room.
Honestly, at this point, I wouldn't expect a ton in a deal. Other GMs know what Taj is now and that's a large cap number for a backup. Another Pax over loving his own guy and holding on too long and paying too much. Maybe a future 1st rounder that's heavily protected, a bench player and a garbage contract that expires at the end of next season is what you'd hope to get. It might be less.
I like Taj too and I like most of the guys the Bulls tend to have on the roster (there are a few exceptions) but you need to look at the big picture. However, I assume Taj will be here til his deal is close to ending and then get moved like Luol Deng or Kirk Hinrich. Pax just simply does not like to deal away his guys.

I think Taj would have good value. He can easily start (I see Sac as his perfect fit). HIs D and solid offense would be welcome on many teams. Plus, his contract will grow in value as the cap rises. Finally, he is 30 but his mileage is low.

You'll probably get your wish.
And I too like both to stay. But the question presented is a good one. I don't expect either to be moved unless someone actually offers a lot for Taj this summer (which I don't think happens). Pax loves both of them.

Taj could start for several teams. I personally think he is incredibly underrated. It's a travesty to me that the bulls never gave him a fair shot to start. They went out and got boozer on a big contract, which basically made it so taj had to be the sixth man. Then this offseason thibs tells him he's going to start and what does the front office do? They throw a ton of money at Pau to come start over him and then bring over Mirotic. I feel sorry for the guy. I kind of want him to get traded so he can go elsewhere and show what he's got as a starter because he will never be that with the bulls. Once Pau leaves, Mirotic will start over him and taj is no center.
As for Noah, I appreciate his time with the bulls, especially last year. However injuries are starting to take their toll on him. He might still have a good year or two left in him, but his shelf life is getting shorter. Honestly, I would trade him over taj. Noah can't seem to figure out how to play with Pau either.

Neither guy is bringing you much on the trade market IMO.
For that reason, both guys likely stay.

Re: Noah or Taj?
I doubt either gets traded. If one needs to go though, it should be Noah. He's older, has severe knee injuries, and is likely to decline drastically over the next few years. Taj has a lower chance of decining quickly due to his low mileage.

Re: Noah or Taj?
Players need to be able to pass a Physical in order to be traded, you really think Noah is gonna pass a physical?.
If they trade someone is gonna be Taj, I personally doubt they'll trade him.
BTW KC johnsson said the bulls ask phoenix about gerald green and the suns asked for taj, bulls said no.

Re: Noah or Taj?
I don't see either getting traded nor do I want to trade either unless a prime Peja Stoyakovic becomes available.
Noah is the team leader and defensive anchor. Hopefully he can be resigned reasonably and finish his career here.
Taj will probably anchor the bench unit D for years to come.
You don't need to trade away good players if you can hit on draft picks and exception signings. So a lot depends on how McD, Snell and whoever we draft the next couple of years pans out.

He would definitely start for Houston, Milwaukee, Toronto, and Brooklyn. I could see him starting over Bonner in San Antonio. I could see him starting in Golden State if they move Barnes to the bench and Green to small forward. So, I would say he would for sure start for 4 teams, and maybe for two extras.

Houston, Bucks, Toronto - probably. Brooklyn is out of the playoffs. San Antonio - no (Bonner is a stretch 4), GS - no (Green is a stretch 4). So yeah, 3 teams, but all those teams are paying less to their starting PFs.

It doesn't matter if they are stretch fours, taj is better. And Brooklyn is currently the 8th seed in the east. The only team taj wouldn't start for that is going for the 8th seed in the east is Indiana. Either way, this argument will get us nowhere, since it is completely subjective and we will never actually know.

Re: Noah or Taj?
Confronted with that unenviable proposition, I would have to go with...Kirk.
Seriously though, part of me wishes we would trade Taj as part of a win-win deal for a starting SF and he goes somewhere and blows up. Gets a chance to start and get as many minutes as he deserves and really grows into an All Star (while we get equal value for a player that exceeds his trade value for us - not a buyer's remorse "we should have gotten more for Taj" kind of a deal). I want that for Taj and think he deserves it.
He has been nothing but a consummate professional in his time here in a situation where a lot of other guys wouldn't have been (seemingly always playing behind someone he is better than, never complains, answers the bell to play through injuries, seems to up his game when the lights are brightest, etc.). I would love to see him get his chance to be a more featured player on a different team and truly excel in the role. I want that for Taj.
