Exum is coming out of high school (in Australia). It's remarkable he's playing significant minutes at all this early.

By and large, Jazz fans are still psyched they got Exum. He'll be good once he develops.

Meanwhile, how's Bruno Caboclo doing?

Exum is on pace to having the worst rookie season in NBA history, surpassing Austin Rivers' rookie season in numbers and efficiency, with at least averaging over 20 minutes per game.

Wiggins, Parker, Aaron Gordon, and Exum are all age 19, but Exum is by far having the worst season of the 19yr old who got drafted.

Every draft has their Darko, Nikoloz Tskitishvili, Shaun Livingston, Jonathan Bender, Yi Jianlian, Evan Turner, Jan Vesely. Will Exum be the bust of this draft?

According to Win Shares, Exum isn't quite on that level.

The Least Valuable Player in the league last year was Anthony Bennett with -1.5 WS.
The LVP the year before was Austin Rivers with -1.1.
And the LVP so far this year? Zach Lavine with -0.7.

Of course you can say that Exum's minutes are perhaps deflated due to not playing more, so here are these guys plus Exum by WS/48:

Rookie Bennett -0.047 WS/48
Rookie Rivers -0.038
Rookie Lavine -0.034
Rookie Exum -0.005

But anyway: Yup, Exum may indeed turn out to be a big bust. We'll see what happens.

Lets give him the offseason and reassess next season. Maybe 20 games in.

I'm in this boat. I am not impressed by Exum at all on offense. In the first pre-season game against the Clippers people asked how he looked. I remarked that he looked like a 19 year old trying to play against Chris Paul. On Monday he'll probably look like a 19 year old trying to play against Tony Parker.

He's a heckuva defender for a kid, though. He sees the floor fairly well, sometimes making the unanticipated pass. Not elite in either area, but not bad.

I'm sold on bringing in a veteran to run the team next season. Let Exum earn his minutes.

Caboclo was a late first round pick though, I don't think it compares to a guy that got hype like Exum, though they are about the same age

Why draft a player playing against such weak competition so high? I don't get it. Should of been a second rounder.

Dante Exum 272
Aaron Gordon 372
Jabari Parker 444
Zach Levine 457 (dead last)

This is the dumbest post so far.

LaVine - 21 minutes/7.6 points/3.2 assist/1.8 turn overs/0.9 steals

they both average 21 mintues and LaVine beat Ex in every catagory except for turn overs.

There is this whole defense aspect to basketball as well

THIS. Defense. There is a reason his guy starts over Trey Burke.

I have been an Exum hater from the start, because he hasn't done anything and is way over hyped. Even before the draft, Exum looks unathletic and slow and plays below the rim. and then when you read the scouting report on the guy, it says he has no skills, no shooting, passing, or vision. When i have a prospect, i like them to either play above the rim like Westbrook, or have super skills like Curry. Exum only passes the eyes test, like Kwame Brown or Jan Vesely, which isn't saying much.

When i watch him in the NBA now, he still looks unathletic and plays below the rim.

Exum reminds me of Marvin Williams as a prospect, plays defense just good enough for his supports to have something to hold onto and sucks at everything else. Also like Marvin Williams, he is young and mental midget. Exum played in a horrible league in Australia and i think if he played a year of American college basketball, he would have been on the bench, just like Marvin Williams at UNC. The way the Exum homers go on, reminds me how the Marvin Williams supports use to defend him, just making alot of excuses for his numbers, his offense, his lack of IQ and confidence, and always over hyping his defense.

Like alot of people on this thread have already stated, Exum is a low first round pick, that was taken way too high in the lottery, and just like Jan Vesely, looks like another international bust.

Should of thrown him in the D-league to hone his skills and give him confidence.

But I suppose Jazz would have thought of that already and decided to play him in the NBA for a reason... hope they made the right call.

Yeah we have heard this about so many of our players. Some dude after Hayward's first year kept claiming that Landry Fields was twice the player that Gordon was, and that, that, gap was going to increase. Hayward was overmatched and timid his 1st year in the league. Hayward has improved every year and now is one of the best SF's in the league. We heard that Favors was a bust after his first two years, a ton of people were saying that Ed Davis was going to be twice the player that Favors is. Favors is now one of the rare two-way big men in the NBA, he is one of the better rim defenders and one of the most efficient big men offensively. Let's look at this in a couple years.

Seriously.. I like to overreact as much as the next guy but even i know to give these young guys time especially ones like exum who are not experienced against high level athletes. I don't know if exum becomes as good as some may have thought but most everyone though he would take time to get there. So why are people already proclaiming him a bust when this was to be expected?? I guess thats just the GB for ya

Stop reading box scores and watch the guy play. He's going to be perfectly fine:

I find it very difficult to say a rookie is a bust. I tend to give prospects (especially young, raw ones) 3 years before I label them. Sure he might suck now but I don't understand how you can make a definitive statement on how a guy's career will play out when he hasn't even had one NBA offseason to get better.

Exum to Gobert is going to be one of the most beautiful things in the NBA in a couple of years.

Age at rookie season:
Exum: 19
Rivers: 20

Get back to me next year on how Exum's age 20 season compares to Rivers' age 20 season.

I know we like to say "he's only 19" and things like that, but how often do players who do get a chance to play but are really awful turn it around and become good players? I'm not doubting that it can happen I'm just trying to think of some examples and am drawing a blank.

Player development seems like a mystery to me. There are late-bloomers, there is regression, etc. I think I've decided to stop worrying about it and just see what happens.

There are too many threads like these but it will be an interesting case study if he turns it around.

He has definitely been bad, but I don't think the expectation was for him to be 20-10 his rookie year.

Still has the stuff you can't teach. He wants to play hard on defense and he has a quick first step. Not an elite athlete though, but quickness is more important than a high vertical for a point guard.
