Would SVG have traded for Reggie if Jennings was healthy?
It was a great value and I think everyone is more comfortable if Reggie is our point of the future. There still would have been benefit to it.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

Re: Would SVG have traded for Reggie if Jennings was healthy?
I would say "yes," based on the value that we had to pay to get him. Most people agreed that Singler could be an 8/9/10 guy off the bench on a great team and DJ Augustin was a rental backup. Reggie Jackson has the potential to be an actual building blocking for a great team.
I also think he could play next to Jennings without many problems. I might be in the minority there. If Jennings didn't get hurt, who knows how we would have done in that 4-6 stretch that DJ started.. we could be in the playoffs right now and Jackson could have been viewed as someone who could push us up

Re: Would SVG have traded for Reggie if Jennings was healthy?
I doubt it. IMO the impetus for getting RJ was Jennings getting hurt and not knowing what kind of player he can be moving forward. That being the case, you make a move that looks good for now and the future. Without Jennings getting hurt I doubt SVG would have been looking to make an upgrade at PG; SF was a much bigger concern at that moment.

Re: Would SVG have traded for Reggie if Jennings was healthy?
I would say no just because Jennings was playing out of his mind and he's on a good deal for another year.
I hope SVG keeps Jennings tho. If he takes some time getting healthy we could resign him on the cheap.

Not likely. Pistons were playing really well and I doubt Detroit's brass would feel compelled to chase down a deal with OKC and battle out so many other teams.

I'd say yes. RJ has the potential to be a better defender since he has the ideal size and length compared to BJ. Plus I think he knows Jennings will cool down sooner or later. IDK just my 2 cents.

Re: Would SVG have traded for Reggie if Jennings was healthy?
I can't see how Stan and Co could do that to Jennings if he kept up playing well though the deadline. It was sort of a perfect storm though - Jennings injury opens us up to bringing in a pg and OKC was after Singler all season and also needed a back-up point in any deal and we just happened to have a former college teammate of Durant as our point guard on a silly reasonable two year deal.

Jennings will be great off the bench next season. Dinwiddie just isn't very good unless he's in for defensive situations

If he knew he could get Reggie for DJ and Singler, I am sure he would.

The deal probably would have been Jennings for Jackson.

Yes.
We got him as a long term piece, not as a short term replacement for Jennings.

Nah. Jennings was balling and seemed to have hit his stride under SVG.

If the trade would have remained the same, with Singler, DJ, and a 2nd going out, I think yes.
That is great value on a possible long term piece, and Jennings is only under contract for another year right?

Didn't SVG say after the trade that they didn't think they'd be able to make a play for Jackson until the summer? As in, they planned to make a play for him this summer? If so, then yes; if he and Bower already had their eyes on Jackson as a long term piece, I think they would've traded for him regardless of Jennings' health once the price became right.

No. With Jennings healthy, this wouldn't have been the situation Reggie would have wanted. I think the Pistons would have made a play for a SF instead.

Re: Would SVG have traded for Reggie if Jennings was healthy?
Like others have said. At the cost of Augustin, Singler, and a 2nd rounder, he would absolutely do this trade again. You simply can't pass on a return like that. Even if Reggie came in to be a backup to Jennings, that's a HUGE upgrade over Augustin.
Also, Stan has been pretty open to competition among players, and allowing them to prove whether they deserve to be starting or not. That's far more opportunity than Jackson had in OKC.

Re: Would SVG have traded for Reggie if Jennings was healthy?
I think so, if the situation were to come up again. Maybe we even give up less assets since teams knew we were without a starter caliber PG and were more or less desperate to compete.
I never viewed Jennings as a PGOTF anyways since I just don't like his habit of falling into his jumpshot so many times, it seemed too Jamal Crawfordish to me.

Not sure, I've heard both 1 and 2. Doesn't make a difference IMO.
